"The impediment of action becomes the action. What stands in the way becomes the way."

-Marcus Aurelius

What would one be in the way of if there is no way already?

Resistance

So the point is to come up with issues, find someone to blame, then fight them?

Lol, no..if one believes that a particular action is the best way forward but is met with resistance, resisting the resistance is the best possible way to demonstrate that the action is indeed the best way forward. Nothing about blame.

So, what does Marcus say for people that have no "way forward"?

Haha! I'm not sure if you mean it that way but that question sounds like I'm being lured into a stoicism vs nihilism debate.

Well, I am curious what the take is for the Stoics, in this case Marcus, so youre right in thar. The original quote almost sounded like a thought on nihilism.

I've got Meditations and have had no time to really read, unfortunately.

Meditations is one of my favorite books.

It's one of my favorites as well. I buy copies of it for friends who need a self-check. That and Man's Search for Meaning. I've lost friends over gifting that one though ๐Ÿ˜‚

How'd you lose friends over it?

When a person feels comfortable within a victim mentality they really don't like to read things that tell them that their response to hardship is fully within their control while simultaneously pointing out that their hardships are often comparatively petty. That's all.

Meditations is essentially a collection of individual thoughts so its a great read for busy people. If you have time to read 3 sentences, you can put it down, pick it up weeks later and not miss a thing. I hope you find interest in exploring it. It's almost more useful as a reference book than an actual read.

Stoicism's stance on "no way forward" would be that you do not dwell or despair but accept & move your focus elsewhere.

As far as a particular MA quote, I'd have to look one up..but they're out there ๐Ÿ˜Š

That depends on how it's written. Like, BGE is all aphorisms and within 3 chapters it made me realize I had to read everyone else first to understand what is even being argued half the time.

You should give it a whirl. I think the format is why it's so popular.

Here you go:

โ€œFlinch not, neither give up nor despair, if the achieving of every act in accordance with right principle is not always continuous with thee.โ€

Yeah, work doesn't stop until the last breath we're with you

Did Amethyst got you out of your comfort zone?

Com certeza.

๐Ÿค™๐Ÿ’œ

I wonder what and how much more it will take to push the majority out of their comfort zone.

Humility ftw ๐Ÿ™Œ

" "Mistakes" is the word you're too embarrassed to use. You ought not to be. You're a product of a trillion of them. Evolution forged the entirety of sentient life on this planet using only one tool: the mistake." -Robert Ford, Westworld
