What is the nostr solution to hate speech? I’ve already seen some of it. Is it just client side blocking? That would mean it could still be spread

You just block them

Yeah, you unfollow and block. Your client could also block specific words if you wish, etc.

Yeah that would help. Filtering is the way

One man's hate speech is another man's free speech. What gives you the right to prevent someone's speech from spreading?
