Lotta carnivore content this week in the bitcoin doc/pod sphere.

That’s cool. But

Anyone want to try a healthy plant-based diet (not talking processed foods, sugar, junk) and write about that?? 😂

I personally wouldn’t do well eating only plants. Where does the fat come from in the diet?

The amount of avocados and olives you gotta eat...youll turn green 😅

I grew up in the south on steak and potatoes. It was an ADJUSTMENT let me tell you. Healthy oils and fats are natural in a lot of beans, nuts olive oil, avocado, etc.

But do you! Vegan has been good to me, over 4 years now

If you don’t mind me asking, what made you decide to cut out all animal products and meat?

Personally my driving reason was ethics and animal cruelty. My wife also had a good influence and I was eating pretty unhealthy. I dabbled for a year, pescatarian for a year, then full vegan. Also cut out alcohol in 2019.

Respectfully, no

That's cool.

But.

There's no such thing, that's why.

It’s easier than ever to eat healthy and 100% plant based! And plant based diets have been around for thousands of years.

Multiple ways to eat and live healthy :)

But you do you, to each their own 🤝

I disagree that 100% plant-based diets have been around 1000's of years.

Without the agricultural revolution, survival without animal products in 90% of the world, was impossible.

Yeah a lot of majority Asian cultures also are fish, it’s true.

I would say it’s easier than ever post agricultural revolution and today to eat plant based

processed, treated, expensive, flown around the world, "green" options.

got it.

It's marketing.

Nothing wrong with local, in-season, plants, but "thriving on it" isn't going to happen.

Sorry, our food system is broken.

You mean like the entire food industry period? That isn’t specific to just plant based. Also outside of that it’s ethics for me personally. I never appreciate the broad claims of “no such thing as healthy plant based diet,” just as I wouldn’t say someone can’t be healthy doing a carnivore diet. I, personally, just don’t, and also don’t know enough about it tbh.

It's a rabbit hole.

I'm not pointing fingers.

Plenty of horrible practices in the meat industry, as well. "Shake a ranchers hand."

Go to the source, if vegetable based diet us what you seek, go to the source.

Don't confuse eating animals as not respecting or loving them, I'd argue they're more loved and valued when we recognize the value they provide.

Good luck on your journey.

Thanks for the amicable conversation.

That’s what I’d like to show, and this wouldn’t even be possible on twitter, so thanks!

Nuanced convos on socials are hard in general. Hoping #nostr can make it easier. We don’t have to agree on everything, and shouldn’t, but good faith convos are nice 🤙🏻

Its pretty difficult to find unsaturated fats outside of the original source that aren’t oxidized. I think it’s relevant to note here that our bodies literally have a metabolic pathway devoted exclusively to saturated fat. I respect vegan people who choose the path out of compassion for animals, but to claim it’s easy or healthy in any way is folly.

Not easy, and biology is a factor that takes thousands of years, for sure. Vegan foods and supplements are getting better and better each year, and for me as I said in another comment it came down to ethics first personally and the fact that we *can* now eat without the use of animals. It’s a great evolutionary path for humanity imo, but would never advocate for controlling anyone’s diet at any level, or demonizing folks for taking their own path, farmers, ranchers, etc.

Speaking of evolutionary paths, I often wonder if I will live to see the era of human bio-hacking, imagine having genetic alterations enabling our liver to produce vitamin C like canine livers do, or alterations to skin cells such that we produce ATP through photosynthesis to augment our energy needs. Perhaps shifts in morphology to increase available sun exposed surface area. The possibilities are easily as diverse as the unique survival strategies exercised by each unique life form we share this planet with. Speaking to your circumstance though, if you don’t mind me asking, are you over 40? How do you acquire complete protein, and what is your preferred source of fatty acids?

I’m sympathetic to the vegan cause because I think fundamentally there’s a disdain for the practices of the food industry behind it. I was vegan for a few years, and vegetarian before that for even longer. There are definitely returns on eating less processed foods, but those returns seem to be diminishing after the first year or so. Seems like a lot of people are realizing this as I’m seeing a number of people I know moving away from veganism.

For me, I think it was the bioavailability of protein and nutrients. I feel much healthier with meat as a big part of my diet, and often get comments on how much healthier I look now compared to before. Of course exercise is part of that too.

I still think our food system is fucked. I found a local regenerative Buffalo farm where I am and I’m happy to support them. I can’t always eat like this, but I’m trying to be more aware of the food systems I support. So I think that’s something vegans and carnivores probably have in common.

Great point and agree! Supporting decentralized and local food sources is a great first step we can agree on and would help make our world a better place 🤝

My dad was able to drop around 16 prescriptions since going plant based. He still hustles hard, and fit for his age, but RA made him consider his diet in order to save his liver from all the meds. For me, being clean is keto. I like it for me, I just prefer to keep “science” out of my food if I can; that’s how I say processed 🤣
