How does nostr feel about this?

Wow. Interesting.
Wow, seems like a bit of a shot in the foot, but from experience living there is full of people trying to take advantage of all the tourism and the prices have rocketed up in recent years, making it a bit uncomfortable for locals.
Yeah it’s kind of 2 edged sword. On one hand extra business, but at the expense of annoyance and rising prices. I kind of get this. Tourism has gotten out of hand in some places.
yeah it's a really big problem here in #madeira
i won't be surprised if they make moves to curb it and try to push more people towards agriculture and boutique crafts, as it is you can already get free money to help start farms here
Yes, a bit, the worst thing for me is that some places rely so much on tourism that they are even destroying their culture.
💯
I wouldn’t mind things going back to when we had less tourism tbh. Places used to feel special and unique but now everything looks like a mall
Yes, I was reading a book that talked about this and how there are places in cities and urban areas where there are no signs of culture and you can be anywhere, like in any place of the world, when you're inside, places like shopping centres and big chains where you're placed in a kind of third space that has nothing to do with the folklore of the place in order to transmit a brand image
imagine being a business owner in the surrounding areas. ouch.
rip being able to eat.
Words for now, so usual politics.
I don't oppose the idea of doing it, neither I'm in favour, but I'm certainly intereted in the outcome of the experiment.
Sounds retarded
Tourists are using AirBNBs because in 2017 the council banned building new hotels
10,000 is 1.25% of the total residential housing stock, I'm sure that'll alleviate a 40-70% increase in prices / decade
Is the 40-70% adjusted for inflation?
Housing prices are a problem for every major city
Ban everything!
If your tourism is out of control, eliminating supply of accommodation makes sense to me. Nowhere to stay, less tourists. Big downside is for businesses that depend on that tourism.
That can’t be it. Locals are not the only ones who will be forced to acquire LTP (not going the easy route of assigning blame externally), also tourist behavior will eventually ebb and cause a market self-correction of an oversaturated situation. But then, local politicians are going to politic… LTP also means understanding others’ HTP actionism, allowing it to play out, opting out, learn, prepare, and be compassionate.
That Which Is Seen, and That Which Is Not Seen.
Noone in China could forsee that the Great Sparrow Campaign will lead to massive starvation, but it did.
Noone in Barcelona can forsee what the consequences of "effectively banning Airbnb" will be. Cheaper housing? Doubtful, especially if every new development would have to have 30% of social housing... Hmm who would pay for that?
Less tourists, yes, but it will be probably as good as less sparrows were a good thing in China...
That's one way to fix the housing crisis. Can't be that there is empty apartments while people are sleeping on the streets.
Huh?
What about the rights of the property owner? Small Mom & Pop landlords might have their entire life savings dumped into a rental property and their retirement relies on the passive income from operating a short term rental business. Now the government just gets to decide they have the right to defy free market forces and crush their savings vehicle!? That's fucked. 4 years notice is respectable but its not going to lower prices. Maintenance & upkeep costs, utilities, property taxes, INSURANCE, mortgage interest rates....all these have have gone up at least 40% with no signs of slowing down.. I have no clue if tourists are the real problem here but my guess is they're just the scapegoat.
If you pay tax on an apartment, you don't really own it.
RIP to property rights.
Probably not so bad if you live there and pay rent.
