I wish I had learned to use a sewing machine when I was young. My mother could make anything with a sewing machine, but I never had the slightest interest in learning from her. Sewing is necessary for so many things. #grownostr #sewing #regrets

I was lucky to be taught domestic tasks as well as trades growing up. All kids should learn to cook, sew, be handy, build and create. It's never to late to learn though!

I know how to use it from my childhood. My father was a mechanical engineer specialized in textile machinery. So I can repair the sewing machines too 😁

Now that's the way! I love to be able to repair the tools I use if they break.

Both my parents could sew. Mom used to make our clothes back in the early 70s and Dad did industrial stuff like car seats and furniture. I should've paid more attention.

Never too late...

I still use mine for quick hems. Do they offer classes in town near you?

Not that i know of, but since we bought a machine recently i can start to practice, but my husband has a little experience with it, so we're learning together.

Funny you mention hems, that's the main reason i first started thinking about sewing. I have been finding nice jeans at the resale shop, and i usually have to have them hemmed. Just this morning i found some nice Levis that fit perfectly except for the length. Good buy for $2.00

$2? Yeah, I'd hem them too. My mom is petite so almost everything needs to be hemmed if you can't find the exact size. So, I learned how to from necessity. 😀

I'm short too, so i often need pants hemmed. But yes, i love our resale shop here in town. A couple weeks ago i found a Patagonia vest, looked like it had not even been worn, for $4. I wore it christmas day to a family thing, and my snooty in-law commented that she liked it, said "Oh you got a new Patagonia vest". I told her how much i paid for it, and she said those cost $60 new. But all the womens jeans are $2.00, pretty nice.

Never too late. My mom is a professional seamstress. I had zero interest in learning when I was young. I took a couple required classes in junior high. When my two oldest were little, I made a bunch of dresses and pillows and curtains. I should dig my machine out...

using a sewing machine is easy. there are so many videos on how to use them.

Yes we bought one recently, and i am in the process of learning. Just wish i had learned when i was a kid.

yeah i know that feeling. I learned to knit as a kid but spent many years not knitting and I wish I could go back and fill that time up with more knitting

if you have any trouble with sewing, let me know. I'll try to help :)

Thank you😊

I learned to sew because I was homeschooled. Got some practice back then and still at it a day.
