Where could I best buy some EUR with my BTC? The last times I used Bisq but the fees are just ridiculous. As a taker I have to do **3** on-chain transactions and pay 0.7% trading fees.

And Bisq does not show clearly how high the on-chain fees are. Turns out Bisq as of now pays the equivalent of $30 per TX! Yeah, great! Guess I'll not use Bisq until I feel like trading full Bitcoins or something.

What about Robosats?

https://learn.robosats.com/

Intrigued but my LN sats sit in a Phoenix wallet which is not supported. Damn, I see I will need to setup some actual LN node soon.

This is a sign from above to get a node going. Meanwhile, you could just set up a temporary Alby or Breez wallet or something?

Blink works great

Robosats currently fails to show me offers. Just "Something is borked! Restarting app in 30 seconds... Error: TypeError ..."

I just loaded it up and it seems to work fine for me. I use TOR Browser and the following Onion Service: robosats6tkf3eva7x2voqso3a5wcorsnw34jveyxfqi2fu7oyheasid.onion

I ran into a known issue it appears. I reported it a year ago and appear to be the only one with it :( https://github.com/RoboSats/robosats/issues/331

lol and you were the one to report it too 😂 Seems to work fine on my TailsOS 5.20 machine using Tor Browser 13.0.4 (based on Mozilla Firefox 115.5.0esr).

Robosats, always in need for sellers. Fees are very low.

Robosats won't let me past the account creation. Clicking anything gives me an error and a stacktrace in my TOR Browser. The clearnet link got stuck creating the robot. Was showing a changing robot indefinitely. Firefox that is.

My LN sats sit in Phoenix, so I'd need to get liquidity with some other wallet first, too.

All that friction is a bit frustrating.

i use it in brave, i think that most of what is added to tor browser is for the viewing clearnet via tor use case not for darkweb sites

it works great, and anyway, you gotta use SEPA or Revolut or something anyhow, really you only hide your IP from the robosats webserver, so i see no reason to be worried about the missing security features between tor browser and brave - and brave is pretty hard core antifingerprinting and whatnot

i have a xapo card anyhow, couldn't be happier with it except for being able to send sats to it via LN

unless you are going for full on trace avoidance the whole nine yards just use brave to access it

Works for me on Android with Tor Browser, or even better on Desktop with Tor Browser. If it gets stuck a page refresh helps most of the time. If you run Umbrel you can also self host the frontend easily which makes it much more reliable and fast. The UX def needs to be improved but once you get a bit used to it its usable.

For lightning Phoenix won't work best as it limits the max hodl invoice duration. Works best with Blink Wallet (custodial tough), or Blixt Wallet

Clearnet does not allow trading afaik, its only for demonstration purposes

Also you probably need to set safety level of Tor Browser on Standard (lowest), as the other ones block the necessary JavaScript stuff

my guess is that's the problem, and why vanilla brave runs it nicely, you have to disable javascript manually in brave, and you can do it but it breaks everything except most darkweb sites

brave has a tor client built into it, as well as extensive antifingerprinting/tracking protections

i didn't even know robosats had a clearnet site...

How can I trust these offers? learn.robosats.com claims it's "safe" but their arguments are not that convincing:

I see 12 offers but no hint as to who might actually follow through. The dispute is resolved on some simplex group chat I read? That's wild! Accounts are ephemeral? I can't imagine this platform to not be full of fraud! You guys actually used this and have experience as sellers? nostr:npub1ktt8phjnkfmfrsxrgqpztdjuxk3x6psf80xyray0l3c7pyrln49qhkyhz0 ? nostr:npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku ?

i've been gypped twice out of two on paxful but out of 3 times with robosats always smooth

Same model as Bisq. I use it very often and never got problems.

The seller "locks" the sats with a hodl invoice before the buyer sends the fiat, so the seller can't do fraud. The only risk I can imagine is that the buyer does a fiat charge back, but that's not possible with most payment methods (sepa instant, revolut, wise are all final and not able to charge back). If there are complications the hodl invoice and the bonds will be locked and the mediator will collect evidence to decide.

Best to understand is to do a small trade so you get a better feeling how this works.

Well ...

Charge-backs are not the only problem. I was seller/maker on another platform and had a guy hurry me to release the coins he just bought. I grew suspicious as it was his first trade and asked for ID. He asked me to return the funds which I did.

Weeks later our FBI equivalent I guess knocked on my door because of wire fraud. I had to explain to the general attorney what went on as she assumed I was a part of a fraud ring because funds of some victim were flowing into my account. Turns out guy's Facebook got hacked and the hacker asked all friends to do some urgent wire to my and other traders' accounts. Whenever somebody would bite, they opened trades with me and the others locking up our bitcoins with the platform.

Sounds plausible, guess you need some luck then or good explanation in case that happens.

"Good explanation" for the GA? Robosats will delete the messages. Sure, I'll have some screenshots for them but you will still have legal costs, lose your trade amount and maybe worst of all lose your bank account as banks can do that for any or no reason at all.

Wouldn't really mind losing a bank account as they are throw away tools anyways, but legal insurance is probably a good idea when selling on rs. I think you can export your chat history (maybe even with some signatures)

Hmm ... I find banks and banking scary. After losing my only bank here in Chile as a foreigner and not getting a new account opened at the time I didn't feel at all like you about the issue. It's easy to lose one of 5 bank accounts but it really sucks to depend on others to do basic things that are just not available for cash.

It's not the same model as Bisq as trading accounts are very much ephemeral. I can't pick a trader who opened the account years ago **with a fixed bank account**. On Robosats, traders can use third party accounts. A total no-go on Bisq.
