🍷 https://translate.nostr.wine is now available publicly! Use DeepL for the same cost without the registration hassle. Auto removal of common untranslatable strings and target/source language matches before credit deduction.

If the language is not supported by DeepL, it uses GCP Translation instead. Other providers will be implemented if needed. Compatible with any client that supports the LibreTranslate schema.

All active filter.nostr.wine subscribers are eligible for 10,000 free characters. Let me know if you want to try it out!

This is very cool. Do we have a list of clients that support direct integration yet? The only one I know from experience is Damus.

Thats all I know of atm but I’ll see if we can’t convince some others to support it eventually. This was very much something I just made for myself with no plan to release it. Ended up spending a lot of time improving it so I figured I’d share it.

DeepL is quite expensive so I’m not sure how much demand is for this type of thing.

I know a few people who use it, and this removes the KYC situation so, a few. Will the maintenance burden require a high turn-around to justify?

I realize that may be asking too much 😊 but I admit curiousity.

It’s actually pretty light. As long as I can not spend too much time tinkering/improving it, I think it should be pretty hands off. This is all wishful thinking though - and please, ask away!

Some clients (like Damus) let you integrate directly with translation services so that you can translate notes directly on your client. One of the more popular self hosted ones is called LibreTranslate. This uses the same schema so you can use it with anything that supports LibreTranslate with a custom URL.

Automatic machine translation using translate.noste.wine worked fine on my Damus app! I can't wait for android clients support auto MT via LibreTranslate format

Y’all are killing it over there. 🍷 Nice work! We have a full set of different non-KYC translation offerings now from different folks, all of which support the LibreTranslate API schema, and didn’t exist before Nostr. DeepL, Google Cloud, AWS, GPT. Let’s fucking go!!!
