Is it just me or does liking feel braindead, meaningless, automatic reaction, while zapping a specific amount of your choosing to a specific post feels meaningful, awareness, caring and thought out?
Discussion
To quote Jack: βYes.β
Both serve a different purpose. Both useful in their own way.
Likes are definitely not feeling braindead to me.
Maybe. But what is the purpose? π
Im using it. Not sure why.
It may just be showing i read it and i acknowledge it?
This, yeah. Acknowledge/agree, not necessarily worth the extra taps and seconds needed to open your wallet and zap.
I feel like zapping shows like an extra amount of appreciation for something, and this makes it feel special.
If you zap everything, it will not feel as special anymore π€·ββοΈπ
THIS.
You could say, you make it feel more special by zapping bigger amounts.
But your big amount is someone else's small amount. There's no common scale here, so this doesn't work.
So you nailed it.
Yes, with the caveat of using them at the end of a conversation.
Hitting that like feels like a final acknowledgement.
Hereβs what I mean:
βHey Ronin. I dig me some chanbara.β
βOh snap Pleb, you get down on Kurosawa!? Zapped!β [β‘οΈ]
βLike Kurosawa, I make mad films, 'kay, I don't make films, but if I did they'd have a samurai. Zapped back!β [β‘οΈ]
Stay cool pleb. [π€]
Stay cool Nakadai. [π€]
So likes are a kind of bro thing? π
Yeah, like a bro fist bump!
Seriously though, how else do you know in a quick and easy way that someone has read the last note in a conversation?
Iβm on the fence. Iβm trying to break free from past habits, but also trying to steal man the argument for their validity, because I donβt feel that every time I like something Iβm doing it out of habit.
How does a like make you feel as the writer of the note? Obviously a zap feels better because a zap is βworthβ more so it makes you feel as though you have created something of value. A like, at the very least, tells the writer that someone read it and agrees/likes what you have to say. Motivates the writer to create even better content.
True.
I just had to hit the like button π
