Does anyone have tips or anecdotes of helping their kid transition from diapers to using a potty/toilet?

No shortcuts I'm aware of here.

You need to take off their diaper and then watch the kid for signs about when it's time for potty. When you see them, you sit the kid down on the potty.

Taught both my kids using this "method", and also my cat. ๐Ÿคท

Thanks! That's the plan so so far. Hit and mostly miss at the moment ๐Ÿ˜…

They conceal information like this on the internetโ€ฆ itโ€™s wild ๐Ÿ˜…

Thanks?

๐Ÿ˜˜ Nobody whispers poop like my lady whispers poop.

It was a hard slog for us (mostly my wife since I'm at work most of their waking hours). Eventually it just clicked, first the 1s, eventually the 2s. My wife's family (mom and 3 sisters in law) all said "they'll get it when they're ready," I guess my MIL thought my oldest brother in law would be going to kindergarten in diapers. So it must be an age old fight

Looks like it won't be easy. We're making progress each day, but I imagine it's a long way off before it fully clicks in.

Set a 15 minute timer and go sit on the potty every 15 minutes, literally labeled it pee pee timer in my phone. There will be accidents. Tee-tee treats for a reward, we used mini m&m's, one each time he peed in the toilet. Our kid has always had very regular bowel movements, so I knew when to watch for the poop squat and would run and grab him and run to put him on the pot, poo poo treats were mini kit-kat chunks. I didn't do the no diaper thing but cute undies were destroyed ๐Ÿ˜‚, just took regular trips to the bathroom and rewarded successful trips. There was no negativity which I think is where it becomes a problem for the kids. If you don't want to use candy as a reward, which I understand (our kid never got sweets is why I was ok with it), find some other sweet treat for a reward. All my friends who tried this had no problems. Keep at it and keep it regular, watch for signs squatting, grabbing their crotch, try training undies, but most of all just don't get mad at them it'll set the whole process back. May the odds be ever in your favor!!

Ah, a timer is a good idea, he's resisting going at the moment because he doesn't want to break play. So we've gone fully no diapers for the first few days so the undies don't remind him of wearing a diaper. It's very hit and miss at the moment ๐Ÿ˜… , we've just got to be super eagle eyed for the signs. We've got a sticker chart to track pees/poos, then after 5/10 there are treats. Thanks for the tips!

That was a big hurdle for us, too. But it became routine. My biggest thing was no negativity with it, good experiences go a long way. Sounds like you're most of the way there, just be consistent.

My mom would cut fish shapes from toilet paper. It gave me something to aim at. I had girls, so that didnโ€™t work so well. We did have a sticker chart on the wall, use the potty, get a sticker.

Shapes in the toilet is a good idea! We also have a sticker chart next to the potty. It seems to be a good incentive so far.
