What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a physicist.

An inventor

What kind of stuff did you want to invent?

That I did not know, just liked the idea of inventing new things

I dreamed of designing paradigm changing electronics. Was always a fan of Steve Jobs.

I admire people who can come up with stuff. I ended up very unimaginative. Lol.

I haven’t invented anything, so… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Me either. But I’ve broken tons of stuff. 😉

It’s never too late. You’re just waiting for your moment.

Yes that I’ve done a lot 😂😂

When I was 10 or so, I liked to open all my little gaming machines to see what they looked like inside

Yes!!!

This is literally how I became a computer guy. I broke so many of our family computers until my father had enough! I had to learn to fix them before he got home!

🤣😂🤣😂

Those were the good old days! 🙌😂

Absolutely!

My dad is ok now his son got a career out of it. He gets to take credit!

😂🤣😂🤣

And he should, he forced you to lear how to put the machines together and still work

💯

He was a good dad. Must’ve been hard raising one that liked to break everything!

That would drive me crazy, tbh 😅

Me too! I grew up to have OCD just like him! I cannot imagine what he went through! Lol

A football player ⚽️

The cognitive dissonance for an American seeing that icon with those words is brutal.

Did you play when your were younger?

I’ve played for like 14-15 years altogether ⚽️

What position? Did you play in uni?

Used to play as a striker as a kid/teen, then moved to the winger position, as I was good with both feet, had great stamina and pace.

Had my times also as left/right-back, but mostly played up the field.

We don’t have football here in uni, volleyball and basketball are the main sports here really

Dang you can run then. If there’s anyway to share a highlight without dozing you, I’d love to see it.

I wish I did have any to be honest. The only ones that I might have, are from when I was like around 10 years old or something, when my parents came to watch and sometimes film and take pictures of me playing.

Some of the goals I’ve scored… you wouldn’t believe honestly

Comes to the states and play pro! We need better players!

It was never behind physical for me, but rather the strategical intelligence and brilliance 💜

Saw players that I could out-run and out-muscle just cut me off the game with a single pass so many times, you finally understand where the true talent is 🤷‍♂️

I’d love to get back to playing, as I’m still only 23 👀

Don’t let that become a regret! Carpe diem! There have got to be clubs or groups you could join!

🤔 I might do that

I guess it’s tough to know, when you should let the past be the past, or when you should continue to do something 🤷‍♂️❤️

You stop when it’s no longer fun, and not a minute before.

Let’s go planet! You should play on #[4] team. I think they just won their league.

I’ve dreamed of playing/working for a football team ever since I remember. Becoming a football team chairman/owner at some point of my life is my one of the biggest “sidequest” goals that I have set for myself.

If there’s ever an academy, I’d love to come for a try-out ❤️

When you make the team, will the back of your jersey say Planet?

That would be epic. I’m so going to say “I knew him before…” 🔥

It absolutely will 👀💜

I’ve actually given autographs to some lovely kids thanks to football 🤣💜

Signing their shirts, boots, balls… absolutely amazing time ❤️

If you get on a team here I will fly to wherever you are playing and get that autograph.

Bet.

Time to get myself back in shape, eh?

Less round, but not flat either 🌎

I actually have an okayish handwriting, so you’re in luck 🤣💜

Definitely. I’ll make that shit happen.

Majorly cool!

I was far too awkward a kid, but I admire the prowess!

What draws you to sports? What feeling does playing give you?

People in PE didn’t want to play against me as it was ‘unfair’, so I wasn’t really considered that ‘cool’ I guess 😂🤷‍♂️

To be honest, I don’t know how, but I was always playing football ever since I started walking. Nobody in my family or amongst my relatives was into sports, so it was quite odd for everybody ⚽️🤔

I love playing football so much ❤️

You were born with a gift and a passion, and that’s the coolest thing of all.

I’ve been messing with computers and disassembling things just as long. I was rough on toys! 🤣

That’s great to have in your life.

Is that a ⚡️on the ball?

It very well could be 🤔⚡️

☺️

It was a foretelling…. 👻

Oh for sure 🔮 ⚡️ ⚽️

Me unintentionally learning how to pirate games, when I was like 6 or 7 years old off of my father was the true foretelling 🤔⚡️

Still remember how I downloaded and installed GTA Vice City for my friend, when I was only a first-grader 🤣

That it was GTA just makes it all the better. 😂🤣 That’s awesome.

I barely spoke a word of English back then 🤣🤣

My mom put me in an extracurricular pre-school English class when I was like 6 years old or something, Internet and movies were the best teachers at the end of the day

Yeah. Learn best where you have fun. I learned what Spanish I know watching Sabadazo 😂🤣

Gomita was so 🔥

🤣😂🤣😂

Now I’ve embarrassed myself! Haha

😂

I *cannot* be the only one. 😂🤣

Oh absolutely, I learned a lot thanks to video games also 💜💜

Are many games localized now? Or are they still predominantly English?

Oh not in my native language 🤣💜

Even Netflix movies and shows aren’t available in my native tongue 🤷‍♂️

Depends really on the country though. Germany, France, Italy, Spain for example, translations and localisations are absolutely the case

Well, I can’t tell you’re not a native speaker reading you. That’s a hell of an accomplishment with as big of a mess as this language is. ❤️❤️❤️

I agree with the Lord

🍿 origin story

Where is Morgan Freeman when you need him?

check my bio 👀

You’re quick

He is everywhere.

Bruce Almighty was one of my favourite movies as a kid 💜💜

I literally just laughed out loud reading that because I always think of that news scene 😂

https://youtube.com/watch?v=iplfWUtKMzI&feature=share

It just feels like everywhere because he’s a planet

English is hard. I meant

He *is* everywhere.

You know, cause he’s the planet.

I’ll see myself out….

But at the same time, I’m nowhere 🤷‍♂️

This movie ruined that word for me 🤣😂

You know me with movies, so the question is already coming…

What movie is this? 🤣🤷‍♂️

The Love Guru.

You need to watch it. You’ll die of laughter.

Can’t wait, straight to the Nostr movie list it goes 💜

Definitely needs to be there. I rarely laugh out loud at movies, but several scenes of that one broke my resolve. 😂🤣

Transcendence makes me cry. Let me know when you watch it. 😭

I absolutely will, #[4] starter a #TanelMovies hashtag, when he was joking about how I’ve never seen any of the classics 🤣

So I’ll be posting about them under there

One day someone is going to invent teleportation and it will start with a joke about Tanel. Save this note.

#InstantTransmission

#bookmarked

Donnie Darko was stuck me for awhile when I saw that

Thanks for reminding me that, I had couple of discussion videos opened on another tabs about Donnie Darko, which I’ve yet to watch 💜

Avoid the directors cut in my opinion

#[4] 🤔👀

For Darko?

Nah people usually find the director helpful.

Classic on it's own. Mysterious atmosphere, takes a couple watches to really cement the plot in your head. Directors cut facilitate that faster explaining the science of time travel and offshoot dimensions. 🤷🏽

If you're a genius or you just like the mystery it's good without. But I find even those who "got it" originally watch the director and go. Ohhhh wtf?? Those kids doing that was necessary too???

You learn something🤷🏽

Going to watch the Director’s Cut today 💜 Curious to see what I didn’t notice and all that 📽️

That’s a fair recommendation

🤣 English doesn’t make sense

That flew over my head I missed that one 🙄 😂

English is a retarded language. lol. It’s not just you, I promise.

You are both correct. A world is everywhere and Tanel is a nostr machine.

Table has merged with the machine in anticipation of our new overlords. I don’t blame him. We will all be assimilated.

I have no idea what movie reference this, but I’m loving it 🤣💜

Star trek that's the borg. Humans with computers ai taking over the galaxy, resistance to the borg is futile

Star Trek: First Contact

8th movie in the series. Better be ready for a commitment if you add that to the list. Great series though.

You’re no redshirt.

It’s already on the list 👀

Good luck! I never recovered! ❤️

God a hope not. 😬

used to actually write small poems before I took my academic break

call them uni-verses

This sounds like something done while smoking a joint. NGL.

We have AI now so…

Expeditionist

I read that wrong at first 😊

Where did you dream of exploring?

😂😂 did you read exhibitionist?

I was hooked on adventure stories growing up. Used to watch lonely planet every night before bed too. I wanted to do it all.

Travel across the desert with bedouins, ski to the North Pole, sail around the world, travel overland on the pan American highway from the arctic circle to Patagonia. Circumnavigate Africa.

I still have time 😁

You do!

I’ve always wanted to go to Antarctica. The research there is engrossing to me.

I also want to see things Golbekli Tepe.

Oh, and yes I did. 😂🤣😂🤣

That’s in Turkey right?

I believe that’s right. Have you ever listened to Graham Hancock?

I haven’t?

Please hold sir. Link incoming to your DM box tonight.

Thank you!

Check your DMs fluffy friend!

Got it! Thanks!

Awesome 😎

Me too, I still want to retire with physics I guess 😂

I may go back to school and get the degree in retirement. NGL.

Favorite subfield? Mine is quantum.

Quantum physics and General Relativity, and how they relate, so all the micro fields related to that.

It’s really a field that keeps going. No matter how deep you get, there’s more there.

Seems like a field that would never get boring!

I have some weird religious ideas that tie into quantum physics too. Lol. They don’t even sound crazy in my head.

Me too! I am trying to create a consistent fantasy world with those weird religious ideas and write short stories in them so that atleast they are a little productive 😂

I’m just wildly curious about why everything happens the way it does, why do we exist in the first place. Physics answers those questions, not nearly all of them, but it’s a decent place to start.

💯

I have been writing a D&D world for 8 years now. The magic in it, along with the idea of planes is all quantum based, although not the primary focus of the stories.

Hard to find D&D players much less ones obsessed with quantum mechanics! 😂🤣

I would love to read one of your stories some time!!

They’re here if you want to take a look https://hitchhikersguidethroughthemetaverse.info.

I’m a noob at D&D, I need nerdier friends, so far I’ve only got them to enjoy Catan. Maybe I’ll design a D&D adventure around the world I created and make them play it 😅

Also would love to play your D&D adventures if possible 💜

I am considering running one for Nostr friends. I have a very nice Foundry VTT setup, and a private jitsi server. Should be doable.

D&D nests!

Yes! That would work well!

Weren’t some of us bitching the other day about needing different content? This is great. Consider yourself invited. I’ll start getting stuff together.

Bookmarked!

I’ll reach out to you in DMs as I get everything together if that’s ok.

Yep

I’m still thinking about it 😂

Still waiting to grow up? 🤣😂

Me too. Allegedly.

Thank goodness I’m not the only kid here 😂

I will remain here with you as long as you’d like me to.

Thank you my Lord now that is loyalty, I shall remain young for a very long time just so you know 😂

Marine biologist

Then I discovered that I just don't like being wet

Me either. Against cat nature. But I do like fish.

Had a friend who went into that field. What drew you to it initially?

Jaws

Saw it when I was... 7 I think. Bruce really made an impression and I wanted to work for the Oceanographic Institute like Hooper

That was one of the first “scary movies” I was allowed to watch as a kid.

Kinda cool that something supposed to frighten you drew you in.

Actually, it didn't really scare me. The shark was doing what sharks do and the kid didn't belong in the ocean. It wasn't the shark's fault he found an easy snack.

After swim class in high school, I lost interest in water. And it finally clicked: the kid didn't belong in the ocean.

That’s a deep insight to have as a kid! Lol.

I’ll never understand the people who poke bears and grab snakes by the tail all while telling us how dangerous they are! 🤣

Having hippy parents helped

Helped you develop mentally you mean?

The hippies help me realize that the shark wasn't the "bad guy". Misunderstood, not evil.

Engineer. I was a #Lego kid, you couldn't walk in my room without stepping on the city I was building.

Oh the pain of legos at night!!

I ended up in a related field. What did you want to make?

In Italian we say "Ingegnere civile".. my dream was big sites or infrastructures like ports or similar. Naval engineering was also a thing I liked. Anyway.. I tried one year and did some exams, but left. 😅

Naval would be awesome.

I was very much drawn towards programs like NASA too. Awe inspiring work in the space program.

My favorite show growing up was Star Trek. Might have had some influence on that. 😊

That's cool! My indirect influence was probably my dad being a Captain of ships then 😅😁

Wow! A real life captain! Was he military or civilian if I may ask?

Civilian, for commodities transports but when he was young in military, he was on submarines. Can you imagine an Italian submarine in the 70ies.. Lol.

Heck no! I’m claustrophobic as it is!

Sounds like a man with stories to tell though!

Indeed.. A lot 😌💜🤗

It makes me happy to hear that. We are blessed.

A veterinarian.

Not a bad paying job either! Lots of schooling though.

I love watching Dr. Pol on animal planet. It’s profound work!

Very good pay, lots of schooling.

I love animals but I don’t think I’d have enjoyed it as a profession. I know my strengths now and that wouldn’t have been a great fit for me.

My kids loveeeee animal planet vet shows (or any vet show really). They love dr. Jeff a lot lol

He puts a great face on the veterinary industry doesn’t he?

Invisible

Like the invisible man? 🫥

What would you do with such power? Would you use it for good? Like Bilbo?

Or evil, like Gollem?

I’d have fought for humanity invisibly. It’s also fun :)

You’d be the humblest hero!

💜
