Google Maps is the best map experience by a long shot, alas it's spyware.

Organic Maps/CoMaps are ok but missing a lot of information.

Anyone working on Nostr-powered maps?

CoMaps and many other projects just use OSM (Open Street Maps) for the maps. So it wouldn't be hard to make an wrapper interface and tie in Nostr if you know what you're doing.

OSM is usually updated by the users, so It's up to people to put the information in to the map. The editor is pretty easy to use, just have to make sure you follow the rules so the information is standardized.

I use to do a lot of Google Map editing, but they basically told all the editors to take a hike. Working on getting more things updated on OSM.

Unfortunately a lot of data missing in OSM, maybe nostr can help incentivize adding/updating places

Definitely a lot of missing data, but it has some that's better (trails, etc). A lot of house addresses are missing, which makes driving routes not work well on CoMaps. I started adding address on things around my city so it's somewhat useable. Eventually I'll get more imported. Wish they could just get a batch import all that data like everyone else, it's kinda crazy that it hasn't been done yet after all these years.

A way to zap OSM additions.

This but with regular on chain tipping instead of zaps

No serious work being done there, no. People are barely even trying to get the nostr protocol ready for something like that. I'm sure someone will release a mid quality prototype soon, but anything good isn't at square 1 yet

Have you ever tried Mapy?

A little bit more invasive than Organic Maps but not comparable to Google Maps…
