First test with the faraday bag seemed to work well. It blocked a phone call. I’m a bit weary of the mechanism used to close the bag, it folds over twice into a velcro seal. I can see accidental leaks happening if its not closed properly. Will keep testing.

What’s the main use case for it? Prevent tracking when you don’t need to use it?
Yes, prevent tracking of not removable battery phones,
isolate a secondary one for privacy purpose,
making credit cards and all RFID bages not readable from close( so you don't risk them being copy or leaking personal data to near possible scan)
Prevent harm done by strong radio and magnetic field to devices.
Never thought about the card thing, good idea.
Setup a new smartphone from scratch at a public wifi spot, not linked to your identity and no sim. At some point, you need to bring it back home surrounded with all the wifi signals, cell towers, bluetooth ... Google and Apple can easily guess who you are and switching the phone off is not secure. That's why you use a faraday bag when going back to you home location so that you do not leak anything related to your identity (location).
Nice. Thanks.
Most faraday bags seem to work just ok…I wouldn’t trust it with anything actually on the line.
In general, long thin slits are very leaky, whereas holes as big as a nailhole make almost no difference (except at higher frequencies they start to matter more). Because EM is a transverse wave it generally needs a slit to get in.
electromagnetism is crazy. Would be fun to code a simulation of this. Always wanted to do that.
Nice! SLNT has a magnetic mechanism that addresses this. https://slnt.com/collections/teams-top-picks/products/privacy-plus-starter-kit
I love the SLNT ones, but the issue is the shipping from the US and the relatively high cost…
You got one! Nice!!
Look fwd to seeing how the battle tests go
You could just turn it off 😉
Doesn’t work like that anymore. iPhones (and I think Google Pixel phones) can be located even when off.

OffGrid makes one with Velcro plus magnet for secure closure✌️
Cool stuff. What will you use it for?
I’ve tested a few and am planning to put them up for sale with nostr:npub1qvwdl9rp7a5ghrxv57wnml5ehg2whjh708vys6kaxpkgu0z3aclsuy2h4p but still haven’t found ones that are optimal. We would not only use it for phone, but also for signing devices.
Oh and on another note. If you drop your phone or laptop in a faraday bag make sure you put it in airplane mode or turn it off before you do. If you don’t the machine ramps up power towards WiFi/Cellular to establish connection again. This drains the battery quicker.
Double bag it to be safe.
