The Monero after withdrawal are fungible.
But the government knowing that you bought Monero is only optimal if you want to sell it on a regulated CEX to pay your taxes on the Monero "investment"
But in a couple of months there won't be any regulated CEX to sell your Monero. So no benefit from doing this even at the downside of using fractional reserve CEX.

Not really sure where those people come from. It's an ancient believe that once you bought XMR with KYC you won't get into trouble by the tax man selling it on a regulated CEX.
But soon there will be no more CEX for Monero, so this is unlikely in your favour.
All Monero will be treated like no-KYC BTC.
For Bitcoiners on the other hand I think it's better to have a no-KYC stack and a small KYC stack separated at all times.

I heard this opinion pop up recently from ArticMine and Cryptocomicon on latest Monero Talk podcasts, but no I wouldn't say that is the general opinion of the community. It's still very much no-KYC as far as I can tell. Like someone else said below me in the comments, with further CEX delistings and scapegoating of Monero on white markets, I can't see any advantage to doing this as time goes on.
No I didn't think it was general opinion as the people I know in the space would never say such nonsense. I was just aiming it the ones that seem to have gone from some warrior to a compliance boy
