There are child friendly onsen that are nice. Also a field trip to a school of your child’s age is probably arrangeable if you’re out of a major city they’d love English speaking foreigners to provide novelty.

A giant cardboard box, some tape, and markers. Might give you an hour. Bonus points to who can disassemble the box for recycling the fastest.
