Running #bitcoin ๐Ÿƒ on an Android.

Currently pruned to 50 GB. I get myself a 1TB microSD and go full, why node. A personal fullnode for the road, how much more independent can one be?

*why not ๐Ÿ˜…

Wow nice!

How many days for full sync?

It has access to a 260mbit wifi connection, 300mb/s write speed on microSD, 4GB of RAM, octa-core at 4x2.7ghz, from my experience I guess it's synced in less than a day. I give an update when it's done

I say 3-5 days ๐Ÿ˜‰

If it isn't done by tomorrow from the clearnet, I set it to get the chain from my Raspiblitz and claim it did.

You're right, it's taking longer. BUT I started again the evening that day with a new script plus I chose the SD card for storage. First it went to the internal storage which was filled up quickly.

I should ve taken a bet๐Ÿ˜… Yeah basically it starts really quick, because the blockchain was very empty on the good old days, got bigger and bigger, now mempool completely fullโ€ฆโœŒ๏ธ have a nice weekend my friend

8 days, I needed to adjust the pruning a couple of times but now the brainwaves are steady

Doggy training is so good.

๐ŸคŒ๐Ÿป

Very early adapter

๐Ÿ˜„

Must be hilarious fun

How are the consumer electronics coming along for that?

I got it also to work, but doesn't stop at the configured prune size.... And when the sd card is full, it shuts down...

How did you configure pruning?

prune= doesn't seem to work for me

Why not / why node

๐Ÿ˜‚ โšก

To be or node to be...

Where can I find this? Best search got me this result which apparently can't run on my old phone;

how quickly this smartphone will die ๐Ÿ˜‚

Let's find out ๐Ÿ˜‚ but I'm guessing there ain't many reasons to die, the battery is already weak but it's now always connected to the wall. If it gets too hot I remove the backplate and attach an old copper block cooler. If the display dies for whatever reason I ssh into it. It won't get off the hook anytime soon...

This is what I'm hoping in the future. Running a #Bitcoin #LN node will be just another app.

What's the phone's internal memory?

4GB

"Are you even a real bitcoiner if you don't run a Bitcoin Core fullnode on your phone?"

Which phone do you use? What about the heat?

Samsung S9, heat is fine. The S9 has a heatpipe integrated in its case to move the heat.

Cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž

A Full Node ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Not an archival full node, right?

Pure psychopath. ๐ŸคŒ๐Ÿป

Gfy ๐Ÿค

How long does the battery last?

Not long, it's already a weak battery after 5 years of service. Its not meant to be a mobile node that I take with me when I leave the house. More like a lightweight travel node. But it's mainly residing at home, as a tinker project

This is awesome. I'll have to try it out when I have a spare phone. How are the temps?

No idea, nothing too worry about though. Phone throttles if it becomes to hot

Que celular es?

Samsung S9

Con un Motorola e9 se podrรก? Voy a averiguar

why node.?!)

Utxactly

I'm playing around with the install script, upgrade from v22 to v25, pruning enabled by default and set to desired amount of gigabytes.

I write a couple of scripts for v22, v23, v24, v25 with pruning either off, 550MB, 14GB,... so one can chose his core flavor and how much space the node is allowed to consume on the phone.

The good phones from some years ago which were the first strong and with enough storage space to run bitcoin nodes are being replaced now by a new generation and face The Drawer of Irrelevance. Let's put them to use?!

Maybe someone with actual coding skills can wrap it all up and turn it all into one apk

#bitcoin

Why?

Why what?

Why put a node on your phone? What is the use case besides just because you can. ๐Ÿ˜

Putting old devices to good use. Those smartphones are more powerful than singleboard pcs and if the architecture supports it why bother with Raspis and such any longer?!

Yea, but it has to be plugged in 24/7, kinda defeats the purpose of taking it on the road, plus you can always VPN back to your node at home.

If I travel I take it with me. It can easily be switched off and on again. Small form factor, solid casing, chargers are everywhere to be found, internal battery can power it for a while if needed. If forever stationery it is just another bitcoin node, nothing special about it and that's the point.

This is a project to give old hardware a new use case and to make it work for Bitcoin.

Can you teach me to do this?
