I have a goal of learning to be able to play some tunes on a piano / keyboard. I get into these zones where I work on it for a few days but inevitably it stops. Not beating myself up about it, life happens.. but does anyone have suggested tools or personal success stories when it comes to self-teaching how to play a musical instrument ? My end goal is really to be able to play simple tunes or say...to hear like a tune or little thing while playing a game and be able to replicate it.

Honest I don’t think there’s anyway a human can play a piano without thousands of hours of practice. I think there are some ways to learn faster (if you just want to know how to play popular songs, as most follow very similar chord patterns) but even then you need a talent to pick it up quickly. No real substitute for time and work my friend

It sounds like you have the right attitude about it!

I've been teaching myself to play guitar. I don't take it too seriously, but I try to play a little every day, and to always be learning a new piece that pushes my boundaries at least a little. Have fun with it! It is super rewarding.

What’s your current ability?

ive memorized some really simple songs just following along on guitar hero style youtube videos. That's about it and honestly is really the extent of my ambitions (for now) 😄

There’s some great programs online too! Mostly just keep at it. A know how of the basic 1,4,5 chording in the left hand is a great place to start!
