I want to be able to use nostr with Amethyst… anybody got a recommendation for a phone / specs for something used / backup but that will still run it well enough? I noticed #[0] commenting in google play that it will haver out of memory errors on older phones.

I develop with the Pixel 6 on regular Google OS/keyboard in mind. All newer phones definitely run better, but it's up to you. The higher the spec, the faster it goes.
I'm running a Pixel 3a on calyx. Works great (except I can't get updates on calyx for the last couple weeks due to aurora store issues).
It was there, but they decided to remove because they don't accept terms of service (basically you can't upload illegal content from a version I compile) with open-source software licenses.

Tricky one. But I think the argument is far too 'edge case'. Insignificant risk vs. no risk. Different lawyers will give different advice in this territory, I'm sure.

If I remember well, Australian government made a law in which they can force you to install a backdoor and you are forbidden to disclose it.
There's a company which had to move to Switzerland to avoid those kind of problems also. I think it was Signal.

I have a moto g(7) supra, and it runs Amethyst most of the time with this exception:
Whenever I open the profile of someone who seems to be "popular," or maybe it's that they have a large #of notes, the app chokes.
I think it gets busy fetching notes in a single thread that blocks other tasks; that's just a theory, as I'm not an app expert.
Iris, for example, does not have this problem... I suspect it only fetches a few notes at a time and then yeilds the processor to other tasks...
My problem is that I prefer Amethyst features, but can't afford a new phone right now...😜 So I just have to suck it up, let Android quit Amethyst, go to the App Manager and Force Quit, and then restart...

I run Amethyst with no issues on a Pixel 6a under graphene OS.
I ended up getting a used OnePlus 7 Pro GM1913 snapdragon. It’s got a cracked screen but works well for testing out android nostr apps. Runs Amethyst pretty well. What other android nostr apps are there for me to try out?
