For anyone who is not aware, nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm has updated the limits on custodial balances to encourage users to move sats to self custody.

I just got this email from nostr:npub1kmwdmhuxvafg05dyap3qmy42jpwztrv9p0uvey3a8803ahlwtmnsnhxqk9 that spells it out.

Maximum amount to receive per transaction: 500K sats

Maximum balance: 1 million sats

Total transaction limit per week: 5 million sats

If you’re still figuring out your self custody options, there are people here who can help!

What happened? I’ve been using it for almost year and it works fine for me.

i used it many times it is great, while signing up a new account it gave me this

exactly, i was like is it risky for me or you?

do you mind sharing what email you have used? (support@getalby.com)

to prevent spam we have a tool that tries to check the delivery before signup, your email then seems to be falsely classified.

sorry for this.

thanks, sent an email to them right now

Email address from an aliasing service?

it is @skiff.com

Well that's probably why. I've recently been seeing some services flag some SimpleLogin domains. Best option might be to purchase and use a new domain with an aliasing service.

i'm exploring self custody, do you know what is the simplest method?

Depends on what you want to custody. There are different solutions for different situations.

For example, if your goal is to keep sats within Lightning, you’d do things differently than on-chain, where you can use offline cold storage.

lightning and lightning address, but later i want to also be able to take them on-chain

An always-on Lightning address is somewhat harder to do with self custody. You can use nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 with the embedded node as well as run your own node and point your nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm address to it. Zeus also has an on-chain wallet, but (as with any node) it’s a hot wallet, so not the wisest choice for long-term HODLings.

Other options for self custodial Lightning are nostr:npub1mutnyacc9uc4t5mmxvpprwsauj5p2qxq95v4a9j0jxl8wnkfvuyque23vg, Phoenix, Blixt, and Breez.

For on-chain you can look at nostr:npub1jg552aulj07skd6e7y2hu0vl5g8nl5jvfw8jhn6jpjk0vjd0waksvl6n8n Jade, COLDCARD, and a few other bitcoin-only hardware signing devices like Foundation Passport and BitBox.

very helpful thanks πŸ™ now i'm thinking i should forget about lightning self custody and keep it with alby and then have self custody for on-chain.

about on-chain, if i used bluewallet on an offline phone like this: https://youtu.be/f-8elm8xCLs is this the same level of security assuming no one gets his hand on the physical device?
