This is legitimately one of the best ways to add (free!) organic matter into your systems! Wood chips not only add organic matter but also increase fungal activity and water retention, reduce compaction, etc. we go though roughly 100yds of wood chips a year on our small farm.
Ask the lads trimming the trees around powerlines if they could drop off a load of mulch. Will be great compost in a few months.

Was an arborist for many years. I brought back as many loads of chips as possible.
No joke my soil all around my yard goes 12 or more of spongy goodness.
Gardens get a fresh mulching every year which stays and just add.
People are always taking away leaves and clippings. My focus is always adding back. Feed the soil feed the plants.
This is the way! 🤙
Leaves and clippings are another excellent source.
Awesome
