Some dogs live at our mercy and live safe and comfortably. Some dogs also live in the wild and live in danger and in squalor.

Humans can, however, make dangerous environments safe. Dogs can't. So it's better for a dog to live as a pet and better for a human to live free.

So it’s all about power

Yes

Wouldn’t that ironically mean that we can’t be free since we’re always subject to the wide range of power holders in the world

There's no limit to the amount of power people can generate to overcome those who seek to oppress them. I don't think those power holders can hold power forever.

If freedom is based in power, that means you always have to be exerting it against a world that wants to consume you. And that's just the world of nature in general, let alone other people.

And what’s interesting is that the gap in power shrinks with new technologies. So the battle shifts away from brute force to mental warfare (i.e. propaganda, brainwashing)

100%

This is one of the reasons I like Softwar. Most of it is about that dynamic. Almost the first 3/4 of the thesis is about just that.

Like gun powder

The chains on this dog is not the leash. The power holder here has chains on the dog’s DNA.

Good perspective 😂

Breeding and domestication are a hell of a chain ⛓️

If we think about our own DNA, I am not so sure we have as much “free will” as we like to think.

I think we can be bounded by our nature and still have the ability to choose what we do within those bounds. But it's the truly strong who can break out of their comfort zone and really act freely.

Amor Fati. Love your fate. But do not go gentle into that good night.

I’m on the no free will side of the debate

I think this is the whole concept of the ying yang ☯️
