The Bible was written by man. Taking it word for word and literally, to the point that anyone that doesn’t becomes thought of as a lesser person is problem number one. Imo.

If we don’t trust what is written by man in 2023, why In God’s name, would we trust what was written by man centuries ago?

But, like Socrates, I know that I know nothing (paraphrasing). So these conversations are lost on me. I have no interest in portraying my flawed point of view to be absolute truth or swaying anyone to believe what I believe.

But thats wrong. The bible was written by men.

😉

An argument can be made for centuries' old man to be vastly more trustworthy than 2023 man.

I'd put that on a parlay if I were a betting man, actually.

As would I. They were closer to God than we are. Less distractions. More reflection. But that still doesn’t stop my skepticism about men writing a book that had the power to start war, cause “holy men” to turn on the “unholy”. Perhaps sieze land, seize wives? Idk.. all I know is the Bible wields power in a way that a loving god would disagree with IMO, as we see from what’s literally happening at this moment. Again. I KNOW NOTHING

Well-put.

And certainly something worth talking about, just for the exercise it would do for our minds.

Thats what wakefield said.

holy men don't write books promoting war.

the whole "promised land" story was probably a propaganda campaign.

the entire pentateuch, the first 5 books of the bible, were written BEFORE the jews existed. I believe that it was in fact the phonecians' scripture, and idk if you know about the phonecians but they were basically pirates. liars, thieves and rapists of various colours and shapes.

anyhow, that's something of a controversial view, since it is foundational for both judaism and christianity. the book of enoch goes into quite some detail about several things that appear in these 5 books that are essential and core, and they disagree on several points, and one of them being this zionist chosen people horseshit.

i read a good article some time back that discusses the subject of the way that history turns into legend turns into myth, and it speculated exactly that, that the promised land story was precisely a propaganda campaign to rally the tribes to invade neighbours land.

Interesting. I don’t know about any of that. I went to catholic school for 12 years, that’s the basis of my “knowledge” or lack there of

i highly recommend reading "the book of enoch" if you want to have your head cracked open about the real roots of the abrahamic faiths.

angels are humans too.

there is even remnants of this information, read the later chapters of Revelation, the angel admonishes John not to worship him "we are the same".

in enoch, the angel in charge of dealing with the great flood also expresses regret at not being more careful with who got on the boat with Noah.

the shining angels are humans with advanced knowledge and tech, and some of them use it for evil. just spoiling it for you, but still, go read it. it's not that hard a read except for the big long parable section which is a bit funny.

I’ll read it for sure. Thanks!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the book of Enoch 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🤍🔥👌🏻

i would argue that the more time and the more times the story has been copied and retold the more likely it is to be modified to suit someone's agenda.

the only way to eliminate this is to cross-reference it with contemporary texts that they agree on points. and this can also be a problem, because those who would manipulate "holy books" for political ends are probably also burning books.

the naivete of so many sects of the "people of the book" in its various flavours in it being "the word of god" is a totally disingenous expression and an entirely arguable point that should not form the foundation of faith.

Sound logic
