I feel like there’s no debate that these big tech companies are capable of making banger products. It’s just the data privacy trade off that people dislike.

I tried them out a few weeks ago and was quite impressed. I wondered if there would be a way to make FaceTime work in a way the person you’re calling could see you while talking. I gave it a bit of thought but didn’t see how it could work. If there was a way to make that happen then I would be a buyer.

Agreed. Yes, there are massive privacy concerns, and it's Meta, but that's not going to stop other people from buying and using them in public. The tech is here to stay, and it's a killer product.
I've been looking at the Skyler model. I might go for it. You said in another comment that the battery was not so great. What are we talk about? How many hours are you getting on average usage?
Like with the Quest, the hardware is probably at the top and initial cost is more than acceptable. But the software is fully locked and make you pay much more than the hardware cost on the long term, both directly, with addons and subscriptions, but more importantly you pay it with you privacy, liberty and ultimately, your life.
For me it's never worth it in the end. But I ubderstand that some are willing to close their eye to enjoy such exclusive products with no competition, ignoring the consequences.
