I do not let my dog lick my mouth and have trained her to not. She is allowed to lick my nose and sometimes will go to town on my arm which I allow.
Was generally never a fan. Face, occasionally, mouth almost never unless they just managed to slurp one in while my guard was down.

He'll even sit there 4" from the toddler's delicious juicy hamburger watching the toddler eat it and not try to get any. If a chunk hits the floor he knows it's fair game unless I glance at him and shake my head no.
That's impressive. I'm a softy with pets, and find that while they don't listen quite as well as a well trained pet, they remain pretty respectful and pleasant when I just let them do their thing

I've heard such reasoning, but have my doubts. My theory, at least with this dog, is it's her way of checking your health out in the morning, and/or a gesture of affection her limited means of communication allow her.

We had a particularly licky dog. She was short, and when people bent over to pat her, she had this knack of jumping up and sticking her tongue all the way down the person's throat.

Nice. I think I've encountered something similar once lol. Mine will sometimes leap up and nip at your lips (ever so lightly you can feel her teeth) when she's happy to see you and you reach down. A real exercise in trust
