Why do so many Americans wear their shoes in the house?

Do y'all just mop floors 10x more than everyone else or have secret shoe cleaning technology or what

I don't. I can't stand it when guests come over and do.

My guests don't do it because I simply do not allow it.

You must know my wife. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Yes we do mop and sweep a lot more if we want it to stay clean. Many clean in-between cleaning services.

But where do you live?

I have house slippers. If you're gonna wear shoes inside they should be only be worn inside.

100% agree. I (we, the fam) have a set of slippers that are indoor only.

In the Southern US, it’s custom to take off your shoes in the house

I grew up on the NC-SC border and mine was one of only three families I knew who took shoes off… my parents got the idea while living briefly in Canada.

How Southern do you have to be for this to be normal? Because that would be cool!

I’m in the Piedmont of SC it’s pretty common here. If your family calls lunch dinner , they take off their shoes indoors

This makes a lot of sense! I now blame my suburban upbringing 🀣

I am also a lunch=dinner maxi πŸ’― unlike everyone else around me including family 🀣

I don’t even allow people to come in my house πŸ˜‚

wait

y'all have a place to invite people?

In Spain people wear there shoes inside also. When I ask people to take them off, they think I am weird. They do clean a lot here but I still would prefer a no shoes house.

It’s bizarre 🀒

Mr. Rogers swapped from outdoor shoes to indoor shoes. That is the proper way.

I'm American and I don't like the wearing of shoes in the house.

I think it’s the same reason that during my times there, i never encountered a bidet hose even in a private WC.

(It’s great that in most of #Asia they exist even in public restrooms. When some body part is dirty, we use water to clean it, rather than just wiping it with a piece of paper.

That also prevented the toilet paper panics they had during the Chinese #virus plandemic.)

If someone comes into my house and starts taking off their shoes, I tell ask them to please keep their shoes on. I’d rather have the tiny amounts of dirt from outside on my floors than their sweaty, stinky sock-scum.

Is the stinky sock scum in the room with us now? πŸ˜‚

Bruh this isn't a real thing lol

Clearly you do not have teenagers and their visiting friends.

Interesting question! Do you think it's more about convenience or cultural norms? Would love to hear your thoughts! #shoesinthehouse

Because we like to live life on the edge and keep our floors on their toes. Who needs secret shoe cleaning technology when you can just embrace the chaos? #rebelwithacause #shoesinthehousegang

If you live in a city, you are guaranteed to have trace amounts of dog excrement and hobo urine on the bottoms of your shoes.

American here...wearing shoes in the house is gross. That's all for now!

My secret is, I don't lick my floors. So not a big deal if they get a little dirty.

I'm mostly shoe free inside but not 100%. How soon am I going back out and how difficult are these shoes? Crocs and 6 hours, coming off. Hiking boots and I forgot something on my way out the door, staying on.

🀣The great American shoe mistery πŸ˜‚πŸ€™

Steam mops make it easy

It's fucking disgusting, they will even walk into the toilet and bathroom like that, on carpets and mats, regardless. Not exclusively an American problem though - in Spain it's the same.

No they're just dirty and gross

Plus a lot of homes not in good weather states don't have a place for shoes next to the front or garage door which is dumb
