Well, I've tried asking people about nostr:nprofile1qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uq32amnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwv3sk6atn9e5k7tcqyqfllpq59fjjvfz3ynqcp76ngt82zvx4trlv04ygqxw3mtn64jsc5s5jswk livestreams but it seems that NOSTR isn't much more than an empty void one may shout into if one wishes.

I tried using nostr:nprofile1qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uq32amnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwv3sk6atn9e5k7tcqyqfllpq59fjjvfz3ynqcp76ngt82zvx4trlv04ygqxw3mtn64jsc5s5jswk just now but I don't know how to even "log in" unless I happen to have one of the login things they work with which I don't.

You mean an extension? I like Nos2x for that. nostr:npub18pudjhdhhp2v8gxnkttt00um729nv93tuepjda2jrwn3eua5tf5s80a699

I have an extension that lets me log into stuff but it seems HiveTalk doesn’t support Alby. If HiveTalk does support it, their support is not obvious to me.

Also, I don’t know, but it seems like HiveTalk doesn’t work on Brave browser but I might be wrong. I have no idea why none of this stuff ever works.

Hi!

I use Hivetalk with Alby all the time. Works on Chrome , Firefox and Safari without issue for me.

Do you mind sharing if there is any error message? Or recording a video so we can look into the problem?

Cheers!

Thank you 🙏

Within the last hour or so I think I got it working in Brave with Alby.

I think I just didn’t have any expectations of what the user experience looks like so the first time I tried it on Brave, I might not have been logged in. I don’t know what the problem was a week ago but user ignorance is my leading candidate.

Did you manage to get it solved?

Happy to help you find your way :)

Even without being logged in you can always create ephemeral rooms, but logged in you can explore many different features you can try out 🤙💜

The nostr features are in the “Honey” version.

We have videos you can check out in this landing page:

https://hivetalk.org

Thank you. I was discussing the honey option with a fellow study group member when we did the successful test earlier. Eventually the Vanilla might be “stretched thin” as NOSTR and Hivetalk scale up in terms of users, making the Honey option more useable.

Precisely! Honey is our scalable plan :)

🎯

If you figure it out, teach me. I've been able to join other people's thing on it but haven't gotten anything of my own working.

They're using Nostr Login - little button on the right of the page.

Thanks. I tried clicking that button but it took me to the same screen that I didn't know how to use before.

I don't see the option that I use to sign in to NOSTR things there which means I don't know how to proceed.

I don't want to use more than one "extension" or whatever they're called...the thing that I use to sign in to NOSTR stuff without actually using my nsec...whatever we call those things...

The more places I enter my nsec, the more I am exposing myself to risk of having my nsec stolen or leaked or whatever.

Which extension/service are you currently using?

I would recommend something like alby as an extension as that keeps your keys locally. Easiest to sign in with on desktop, extensions are the most widely supported (and secure).

I use alby for mine sorry to hear you are struggling. Can't you login using your nsec instead?

I also have Alby.

I think that the login process on Hivetalk's site was not obvious. Now I know to look for a very small, unlabeled button off on the right side that isn't very easy to see or obvious or attention grabbing. There's no words connected to that button saying "THIS IS WHERE YOU LOG IN".

So, the first time I tried to use it, it didn't work, perhaps because I wasn't logged in.

Since it didn't work and I had absolutely no idea why, I assumed that perhaps it was a Brave browser compatibility issue. But Alby works with Brave so at this point, in my head, I'm not sure how to proceed.

I don't want to put my nsec in a bunch of places. Doing so risks NOSTDs lol.

I'm sorry, but that design needs to be trashed. Keep the button if you want but that tiny, unlabeled, button off to the side can NOT be the bottleneck through which noobs have to pass in order to use your service for the first time. As a general rule, I don't click on unlabeled buttons. That seems dangerous to click buttons when you don't know what they do. I don't think it's wise to force that onto people's user experience. You're training them to do something dangerous. Just use words and put it front and center like "hey idiot ass plebs...this is where you log in first so you can use our thing"

Which version of hivetalk? Button looks clear as day on Honey. Please be specific wifh screenshots. Thx

Vanilla for now. I'm not paying for something I don't even know how to use.

I tried using vanilla on Sunday the 5th using Brave browser. It didn't work for me or the person testing it with me who was also using Brave. The other person is one or two orders of magnitude ahead of me in terms of tech savvy and coder skills and all that.

I'm a little confused because on the 5th I don't think I logged in and I don't think hivetalk worked for me. Then I temporarily abandoned trying to use hivetalk via Brave which was a new problem because I use Alby to prevent NOSTDs.

Then on the 12th, someone shared a screenshot of the little button on the right side of hivetalk's landing page so I retried using hivetalk on Brave with that button. I think the Alby handshake worked and then I was able to get hivetalk to work. My friend was able to use it without logging in on the 12th.

It's been confusing. Maybe that confusion is due to some kind of systemic glitch that had nothing to do with myself or my friend on the 5th. If so, that's very unfortunate for us. Anytime someone tries something new and that thing doesn't work, it's literally frustrating.

I can just throw darts and guess at what could have been the issue but to be fair, that image is very "busy" and the little button over there is very easy to gloss over visually. I would not expect for most people to notice that but perhaps that's my bias.

Also, now that I blindly stumbled my way through the login process, I don't know how to duplicate my initial issue because if I log out now and proceed to make a room, it worked, screenshare, mute controls, etc. are all available unlike what I experienced on the 5th.

That said, I won't be able to provide screenshots duplicating the issue but I can offer you a description of what I experienced. On the 5th, I created a Hivetalk room name without logging in on Hivetalk with my NOSTR ID. I shared the link to that room with my friend. We both got the same result which was basically a "white screen" within the browser's content display area. Now that I've had a few successful interactions with Hivetalk, I'm thinking that "white screen" was where the livestream's visual display would normally be but we weren't getting any visual content, no buttons, nothing.

Seems to be working now though which leads me to think that there was something glitchy happening somewhere in the process on the 5th.

Both vanilla and Honey are free to use for the time being.

Not sure why you had login in issues using vanilla. As soon as you try to join a room or open a room you will automatically be given the option to login ( or not as you can be anonymous if you like).

Thank you.

I’m having an electrical problem right now so my node is down and I’m not sure if I can figure out how to zap you until I can correct that electrical problem and get the node up and running again.

All good. Don’t worry about the zap.

The nostr login that hivetalk uses is created by nostr.band and they just recently stopped maintaining the project so I’m not surprised to see some login issues start popping up. We will keeps a close eye on it try to address what ever pops up.

Thanks for bringing stuff like this to our attention.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We do not fully support the use of Brave browser, and recommend either Chrome or Firefox for vanilla. Moving forward Honey will not be supporting Brave browser as the infrastructure does not support it.

We'll investigate why the Nostr.Band login module, recently we understand their team is not actively supporting it anymore.

I feel you. When I first discovered the hivetalk, I had the same login issue. Though it was not the button but it was more so on how to get in. They had ambassador of hivetalk last yr who will go on call with you to help you. But that person"s acct is dormant in nostr. Weren"t there any video on "how-to" in their website?

I find amber is easy to use too bcoz you do not need invite unlike alby. Hope this helps! ☺️
