The heads of Samourai wallet and Wasabi wallet are fighting each other today. Not very pleasant, but if you are into BTC you probably should know. I follow “Seth for privacy” on multiple platforms. (Where I saw this news) I think I will stick with Samourai wallet.
Discussion
Why they fighting?
I just got a piece of it. But the head of
wasabi wallet doxx’d the leader (ceo?)of Samourai. The wasabi guy claimed the other gave a death threat to him. It was not, I saw the tweet. It was a far reach to claim that. But anyway.
Link to sauce?
Twitter, search “Seth for privacy” (this Seth is on Nostr and Twitter)
Use Non-custodial Wallets!
Yeah, Sparrow wallet.. with Samourai Whirlpool coinjoin implementation.
One more argument for btc->xmr / xmr->btc swaps on anonymous tor exchanges. At least until both chill.
You are speaking my language with xmr sir!
So much easier with xmr!!!!!
Monero!!!
😍🫡🤙
I use Localmonero and Houdini Swap (https://houdiniswap.com). The best services IMHO.
Yes!! TradeOgre and Bisq are supposed to be good also.
Localmonero /agoradesk are my fav
How much money do you left on the table doing these conventions?
With LocalMonero it’s flexible. Depends on the available offers. Sort of like with Bisq or Robosats. HoudiniSwap charges appox. 2% for each swap. If you buy and hold their token, the commission becomes smaller, but this is not a must.
Interesting because they are both owned by cypherpunk holdings. Is this drama to increase attention?
I have no idea. Two security professionals fighting.
Doesn’t seem to be the case. Whenever I even briefly mention Samourai or Wasabi on Nostr/Stacker News/Telegram, I unintentionally trigger a shitstorm where both groups fight each other. And they keep fighting even if I abandon these threads 😂 No, the really hate each other.
Their are camps of people on both sides. But I do believe Cypherpunk Holdings in Canada owns them both. They own tons of things..VPNs, Bitcoin, Etherium, password managers. (I wonder if they sell all user info to the Government?)
Yea I learned of this recently
Good question…
I wonder who the majority stake holder in cypherpunk holdings is…
I dont know. Their ticker symbol is HODL on the Canadian Securities Exchange.
Found it, it’s some Lithuanian high stakes poker player and former European Parliament dude “Tony G” interesting. https://cypherpunkholdings.com/about-us/board-of-directors/tony-g/
Just playing devils advocate here but if it were “bad for business” I’m sure these 2 companies would be getting told to knock it off so to speak from their stakeholders so at the very least it isn’t bad for business and maybe even good, the old adage, all publicity is good publicity…
Was curious about this after reading your comment. It seems like Cypherpunk Holdings invested just a small amount in each. In a couple articles, I saw claims of $100k into SW (didn’t get a $$ amount for WW). Doesn’t sound like anything major or amounts that would allow for any control of either entity. Found this mention from SW in regards to percentage of holdings.

Good to know that’s is a small holding. Maybe all the drama is legit then. They really just hate each other. I’m more in the SW camp myself never used wasabi.
Agreed. I’d never feel comfortable using WW with some of their decisions and historical code issues. And although, if I’m being honest, the SW “take no shit” attitude is more of what I want in my privacy tech (as compared to voluntary compliance with regulators)…it can make things a bit confusing for newbies trying to decide how to best tackle their own privacy.
Yea I think we’re on the same page for privacy you don’t want compromise as that is a security hole.
100% 👊
Tried to zap this note but keep getting an error
Appreciate the effort. Trying to sort out my zap server. I think maybe I don’t have the right (or enough) channel partners. Here to learn and experiment with LN. Non custodial definitely has a learning curve. 😅
So the reality is that both solve for a bit different type of issues and both have specific issues in some situations. Also the reality is that the leaders of both are sort of idiots that made many mistakes online over the years.
Samurai is likely the better option in majority of cases, but Wasabi is generally an improvement to privacy too.
Yeah, it is a task with so many steps with BTC.. sparrow wallet with the samaurai whirlpool coinjoin implementation and all… so many steps to keep BTC private.
I digress, Monero solves all these problems. So easy to move the super private Monero XMR around.
What you said is true... for now 😉
