A bunch of tiny flies dies in my honey pot. This is not a euphemism. It was really gross.

Pure protein! Seriously, get a nylon cloth like a curtain sheer, or cheesecloth secured over another container and pour your honey into it. It will strain out the, um protein.

It's too late I sacrificed it all. I couldn't trust it.

Oh dear. Hate to hear that. Nevermind my previous note.

It's alright. Kind of sad, but there wasn't a whole lot in the container at the time.

If it ever God forbid happens again, you can turn the bottle/jar upside down on a stake, stick or something and let any nearby bees lick it out. They get the use of it at least, instead of it going totally into the trash. Bees will drown in it if you lay it on its side or right side up.

It wasn't bees, just these tiny flies or fleas that around right now.

Sorry. Thought you were a beekeeper. Glad to hear no bees are flying around inside your house.

Haha, it's all good. Just some flies that come around this time of year. They're really annoying.

Fruit flies I’m guessing. Tiny bastards, come outta nowhere, despite a spotless environment.

Make sure you give it some draft space for the hobey to gather and pool in the container opening or it will overflow and you’ll hate me. Best to keep a wise bowl or flat-bottomed container with sides under the filtered container to catch any accidental overflow. It’s a pain, but it’s our life.

There won't be a next time 🫡

No flies will ever taste my sweet local Florida honey again.

How do you think they gained access to the honey container? Was the lis breached somehow? Or was it on the honey frame?

It's one of those honey pots where the glass lid is molded around the dipper stick, so it's not completely sealed. So these tiny flies could skip through the crack.

Like this?

This is it

Very cool. Yes, mine has a silicone gasket that ensures a snug fit. Not much you can do except retrofit a silicone fitting at the opening, somehow. Hopefully it was a one-off.
