I've considered myself Christian for a while but today I was saved.

I made the commitment in front of a local pastor and he's committed to guiding me as I go. He gave me this Bible and signed and dated it.

It feels good man.

I wanted to share this with my Nostr frens. 😊

Right on my friend.

All glory to God, may he bless you every step of your way. In Jesus name πŸ™πŸ½

What convinced you to become a Christian? I was born and raised Catholic and even though I understand and adhere to its values I really do not do much with it anymore after i became an adult.

I grew up in a relatively conservative United Church (which is no longer a church) so I've always adhered to the values as well, at least loosely like most modern pseudo Christians and agnostics do.

There was mostly only doctrine there and no active pursuance of Christ.

I have been feeling like something has been missing for a long time. I started listening to Jordan Peterson's Biblical lectures back when he began tgose and that opened to door to further study on my part.

Since then I've been seeking the truth and that has led me to God's word.

I want to pursue as many translations as I can to get as close to it as possible. I'm not a maximalist of any specific translation.

I'm continuing my journey and understanding of the word of God and I simply aknowledge that I believe in Christ and what he stands for.

Ah, i listened to those as well. Very interesting to hear his interpretation. I had been out it for too long and when i was young i found it too hard to understand.

I'm happy for you that you found your way!

If you’re looking for more practical aspects of the faith, I suggest exploring β€œCatholic Social Teaching” and diving into Rerum Novarum. Much of it is postliberal/integralist/distributist thought. New Polity fleshes this out as it is a wonderfully thought provoking channel and magazine that delves into a variety of more practical topics instead of staying only in the theological which is more abstract.

GOD bless you, dear brother!

God bless, brother. Making Jesus my Lord is the best decision I’ve ever made. #jesusisKing

Amen. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ˜

Welcome πŸ€— the family

Awesome to hear, man.

What helped you make the change?

Was there something that happened that made it feel more "real"?

It's been a struggle recently. I'm doing my best to be a good husband, father, son etc. but we're struggling financially (errors in my past, 100% my fault) and it's really starting to get me down sending basically everything I earn to banks and other debts. I think that's really what pushed me to actually make the commitment versus casually studying and surrounding myself with other Christian people.

I simply can't do this on my own. I can work, earn more, create value here and all that but at the end of the day I need to have faith in Christ.

Nothing in particular other than simply praying out loud with the pastor. Having him present as a form of accountability really made it real for me.

To God be the glory.

Saved from what?

It's from #uncertainly isn't it. Some people need the certainty of a divine arbiter. I think that's the key. That's what #faith confers. I'm too sceptical to make that work but I don't begrudge anyone their comfort blanket.

Partially accurate, if not a bit reductive.

All glory to our Lord Jesus Christ. Have you been baptized? Also, beware the spiritual attack you’re going to undergo now. The devil hates this. I recommend the St. Michael prayer.

St. Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle.

Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,

and do thou,

O Prince of the heavenly hosts,

by the power of God,

thrust into hell Satan,

and all the evil spirits,

who prowl about the world

seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Congrats!

It’s a worthwhile lifelong journey.

Amazing 🧑 🫑

So good. πŸ’œπŸ«‚
