Never used, never will.

I was of the same ilk when it launched. Then I joined a few years later. Want to leave it now but I do find the job board element semi useful. The rest is highly toxic.

It really only serves one purpose and that's to signal to recruiters that you're looking for work.

I don't know of any alternative. Just about any other venue requires the job seeker to be the one on the hunt. Linkdn is the passive way to job search.

Yeah, besides being a kind of job board it also has this passive function. Probably why I haven’t deleted it yet. But I really dislike the rest of it. Getting more and more toxic, riddled with egos. I’d love to see them remove the social media aspect of it all. Pure job advert and apply board. No opinions. No social network. No algorithms, no bots.

Crazy exes love it.

Heard from a friend.

No real alternative--it's pretty much "expected" at this point.

Currently the only social media that I (grudgingly) use.

(Well, other than Nostr of course)

Yeah same here. Have no other social media. Just that. Tempted to kill it off.

redballoon.work is one alternative. Small but growing.

US based right?

Yes. Are you outside the US?

Yep. To be honest, it’s more the social media aspect that grates with me. It’s getting more and more toxic and irrelevant. Think I’ll eventually leave it and cultivate my own processes. I used it only for saving some time when searching roles - never ever applied through it - that was always done direct with the employer.

I hear you. I haven't signed on in years, but see screenshots now and then of the social side of it and am reminded why I shouldn't sign back in. I really ought to delete it. The data they harvest is some of the worst of all the Big Social platforms (now owned by Microsoft) and Reid Hoffman, one of the original co-founders is a Bilderberg guy and has connections to Epstein.

It takes more time and effort (proof of work) but when it comes to the social side of business networking, I'm much more a fan of networking with people in real life (going to conferences, finding ways of expanding existing networks in time and space), offering value in less conventional ways, and cultivating online connections in more meaningful ways.

Agree with everything you wrote. When I look back over the last 15 years or so, it has actually never helped me lol. Going to reassess it all tomorrow.
