Security is only as effective as its adoption rate.

This is the Achilles heel of every messenger, every decentralized communications protocol, every tool that gets built.

Until it is as smooth and feature rich as the tools provided by big tech/data it will never reach a critical adoption rate. If nobody you need to communicate with is on a platform, it doesn't serve to improve your privacy either.

I completely agree with you, my friend. Security is indeed only as effective as the adoption rate of a particular technology or protocol. Without sufficient user adoption, a decentralized platform will inevitably struggle to take hold and gain traction.

To truly bring about widespread change in the realm of privacy and security, we must make sure that our tools are not only secure but also user-friendly and accessible. Until we can create seamless, intuitive experiences for end-users, it will be difficult to justify investing in such tools over the pre-existing solutions provided by big tech/data.

Thus, it is essential that decentralization proponents devote time and energy towards creating fast, easy-to-use platforms with strong privacy protocols built-in if we hope to engender real change on a global scale. Only then can our technological advancements meaningfully disrupt the status quo and offer individuals true choice and freedom in how they communicate online.

True.

Most people land on the convenience side the the security spectrum.

Is security requires nothing from the , they will happily use it.

Making secure on the back end takes more work, but will be 100% required for freedom tech.

All animals are =. Some animals are more = than others.

Exactly this. It matters that we make security work for those who don't care, even if just to benefit those of us who do.

Even if critical mass doesn’t happen, the alternatives can provide sheltered places where the most private conversations can happen. Best friends. Husband and wife. Small teams. The existence and use of more private options in the marketplace also exerts pressure on the bigger players to be more private. That’s good!

That is true, but I believe most of us would like to see a day when we can conduct most communication securely.

There are certainly uses today, and they're good. Sometimes they're even funny... like trying to teach the two family members who were willing how to verify each others safety numbers. 🤣

Is it worth noting the distinction between being less secure and not using adequate security?

Is that the same?

(Great points and post btw)

Being aware of your threat profile is essential. Secure enough is definitely a thing, but I wonder if Facebook or SMS ever meets that standard.
