Sure being an asshat on Nostr won't get you paid, but it could also show you who is willing to forgo payment to hold their opinion. Zaps can push groupthink and self-censorship if your only motivation is trying to keep future sats flow to your account #[1]

I’m nice to those who are nice back; assholes, not so much. I don’t mind not getting zapped for speaking my mind, especially when the other person insults me first.
Assuming nice people are the Nostriches providing value and getting the most sats zapped:
Value can be many things, like:
- contributing code,
- delivery of input,
- asking questions,
- answering questions
- making you laugh, or thoughtful.
On the other hand, we have situations where people are nice but not good, like:
- Will they still earn the most zaps when they telling someone the truth when they prefer to hear a comforting lie instead?
- When they are nice to their targets, but cheat them out of money?
Is modern zappernomics the answer to those burning problems? ⚡🤙

Oh, I don't believe that nostr is worse than any other option. It's just that this reliance on " crowdsourcing sats for 'niceness' " will ultimately either 1.) Suffocate dissent or, more likely, 2.) channel dissent into acceptable pathways, thus co-opting and neutering it.
There should be a small buy-in amount to use nostr and every time someone downvotes a comment it deducts a few sats..
