Honestly I think #nostr clients should call them “connections” and not “followers”.

Never loved the term to begin with in the context of social, and now the term is fully tainted.

One wants to make connections, while the other seeks to grow followers.

Just a thought.

Nice idea, "connections" must replace "followers" 💥

Give the inflooencers one more reason not to “get” nostr! 😂

Good morning friend, pura vida

Many Blessings to you and your loved ones.

Friday is here

Agree my connection

Harder part is knowing who you’re connected to vs who is connected to you. I do like the idea.

If we ditched following from UI we could simply call them connections.

There’s a bunch or smart peeps who I’m sure can work out the semantics.

nostr:npub12g2ltkvsux009jvf27chjmsdfx3vpt98ktw58vnkumkdjny7zy4q6pphmq got me thinking.

So what if there still exists followers and following.

BUT

If it’s bidirectional, and you both follow one another…

A CONNECTION has been made!

CONNECTIONS > FOLLOWS

Great, we’re turning into LinkedIn 😂

Ha! Is that how it works there? 😂

Love this.

Agreed .

Good morning ☕️

I dig that, following is a stalker thing, maybe interests some people here but not me. Hello connection! 👍

I agree, using the word connections is better than followers.

“Connection” implies a bidirectional link while follows are unidirectional (you following someone doesn’t mean they follow you). I don’t love the term “follower” either but “connection” is technically inaccurate.

Yes… so in order for it to be a connection you both must “follow” one another…

This is an interesting feature. It would make it instantly recognizable to the user that the bidirectional connection exists… 🤔

When would that be useful to know?

All the time? Anytime?

I mean, what's the use?

1. Do you need the number if connections, and for what?

2. Do you want to know who an npub is connected too, and for what?

...

Yes, I see what you mean… 🤔

LinkedIn has both Follows, which are one-way, and Connections, which are strictly bidirectional.

I view GM notes like pings. Someone with a lot of reach says GM and everyone who sees it pings GM back and then we can all look at the replies to see who is active and find new people.

And it's very low barrier to entry because absolutely everyone who can type on a computer is capable of writing "GM". Don't even need to speak English.

That's why Odell's GMs are so popular. Everyone follows him, so if you GM ping him back, hundreds or thousands of people see you. Whereas maybe 5 people see your own normal notes.

There is only one thing more precious than our time and thats who we spend it on.

Have a Happy and save weekend

Love it! 👊🫂⚡️

Although connections are more universal

And absolutely:

connections > followers

But every connection was once and is now a follower. Someone has to follow first.

“Connections” is nice … but “follows” is already the language of social AND it’s kinda “hardwired” into the specs for NIP02.

https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/02.md

Indeed… 🤔

It'd work if they were automatically reciprocal. As it is now, they're asymmetrical, so more like a follower than a connection.

GM. Yes.

Good Morning friend

“connections” for the win

I dig it

Love this!

really they are subscriptions, this is a publish subscribe protocol

agreed

Brilliant

🫂👊⚡️

That's a great point. Using "connections" emphasizes building relationships rather than just accumulating numbers, which aligns better with Nostr.

idk im not big on connections cos overambitious in a way that doesnt land for me & also reminds me of: missed connections first

got 2 to throw out there:

34 channelers

200 channels

like that makes sense to me. oh i got 200 channels im reading from. etc

&

34 tuned it

200 tunes

if i come up with more i'll add

Love the thought
