Zaps sent from and received to my own node feels better than using a custodian. My node may go down due to power, Internet, or server issues, but I'd rather have the piece of mind that my sats are my sats. At least that's what I'm telling myself after removing my Alby Lightning address πŸ₯Ή

I’d like to do this one of these days. πŸ€™

it's doable if you're not afraid of the command line, but it's honestly a huge pain in the ass. we need easier point and click solutions.

Point and click solutions would be lovely. πŸ’―

Do you umbrel? Any beginner friendly way to do that?

i ran an umbrel for 3 years. i had this setup working fine on umbrel before i moved to a built from scratch node about 6 months ago or so.

you need a few pieces, such as a reverse proxy like nginx, and a way to hide your home IP address, such as cloudflare.

(in before noooooo don't use cloudflare they're the devil nooooooo.)

Would you need cloudflare though if you had a reverse proxy cloud hosted?

a reverse proxy from cloudflare or any other provider or a VPS that you own yourself would be needed. you need some way to hide your own home IP address if you care about privacy and security.

Thanks for the clarification. I initially read that as you need reverse proxy and cloudflare. I figured that a reverse proxy should be good enough.

Curious, does your setup support Tor?

You could have your node only be accessible via TOR and run a proxy on another server to connect to TOR. I've done this before. It's a bit slower, but does work. I used Docker-Socator.

Thank you! I’ll look into that.

Thanks for sharing your experience with a beginner like me πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™ Much appreciated.

It's a no-go for me. Amethyst on Android.

Damn it never mind. It was Tor again. I forget Orbot is running...but, I was unable to zap when using Tor, if that's of any use to you.

i appreciate the testing and the zaps :) back atcha!

No problemo. I'm good at breaking stuff. I loaded that page in Tor browser and it worked, but only after a few cloudflare captchas.

hmm. i dunno. i've been using this setup for most of the past year. i had some issues last spring, which is why i changed to Alby, but i resolved them shortly afterwards, but never updated my address until yesterday. it seems to be working fine for many people.

does this web page load for you?

Derek, I'm getting a page full of raw text for that link. Amethyst is sending me back to the thread when trying to upload my screenshot. I'll be back.

This is correct. This is the "code" for my lightning address. They all look like this.

Ah I see!

Yes, Sovereign Computing can be the way for most people. It can be easy to run your own node too! It is a great feeling knowing I will not be rugged! Why did Alby do this move?

We don't know for sure. I'm hoping one day we'll find out.

I would be happy to receive satoshi or lightning🫠β™₯️😍
