Is there yet a cross platform file sharing app based on pear?
Something that shares a folder in the OS with all connected devices.

Not sure if this id what you looking for but LocalSend is crossplatform and works great.
Syncthing?
Yeah SyncThing is good, I moved to it from nextcloud
Nextcloud is bloated and difficult to run/manage
OwnCloud has a new GO-lang version that is easy to run and maintain
If it's about "Synching a folder on all devices" I can recommend "Syncthing". Especially if you set it up with a Raspberry Pi. That way you can have a central device that's always online...
This setup is working very well for me across Windows, Linux, and Android devices
Seconded. It works really well. Having one of the devices online all the time helps keep everything in sync.
Been using this for at least 3 years now with no issues
Does it keep some historical record of old files?
If one device deletes a file, is it irrecoverable for all others?
There are several different options for versioning files. I don't use them for any of my shares and they are off by default.
Awesome, thanks!
Is there some third party service for hosting a device in the swarm?
Sun thing isn’t based on Pear and has some frustrations that I’m not a huge fan of. Thats why I’m literally building our own tool for this 😆
I don't know if there is, I haven't paid attention, but I'm pretty sure they have most of it figured out... they have "hyperdrive", so you just need two computers with pear runtime installed and get them to subscribe to a single hyperdrive and boom, shared folder afaik.
Next is.. how well does it work?
Yeah, IPFS is supposed to work like that, it appears like a native local filesystem on a *nix system.
Literally working on our application for this as we speak. Would love feedback when we get it released. Alpha shouldn’t be too far away now.
A fork of syncthing with the pear stack would be cool
