I agree. The Nostr ecosystem is going through a significant crisis right now. Zapping is becoming more and more difficult. This started when Alby pulled out. I remember when it was enough to just enter an Alby address (in email format) into your Nostr client and the zaps worked. Switching to Coinos with NWC was already a step back in terms of user experience. You can say what you want about NWC, but it’s definitely more complicated than just using a simple Lightning address in email format. And there were also more glitches and hiccups compared to how stable Alby was before the end of 2024. And now the proposed alternatives are even more complicated.

If you're serious about lowering the barrier to entry, you need to start thinking from a usability standpoint, not just from a technical one.

I've not been able to zap for about a year. And I'm a technical person, I cant even imagine what it must be like for a new user.

Why don’t you ask nostr:npub1csamkk8zu67zl9z4wkp90a462v53q775aqn5q6xzjdkxnkvcpd7srtz4x9 for help, she just learned about bitcoin in 2023 and bought a burger with her zaps a few weeks ago.

it’s easy as hell, even easier now. when i started it wasn’t ass easy, but clients like primal are for the people aren’t as technically skilled.

“Zapping: It’s ass easy!” 🍑⚡️👌

Never once had a cashu zap (or zap equivalent) fail. Gotta retire LN zaps.

Try that again once people only accept zaps from certain mints.

Will fall apart in seconds

I don't get why. They are banks that have LN (or other channels) in between them (if I get it right).

I use mint A, you use mint B.

You send zap = You tell mint B to send BTC (LN or other) to mint A and mint out that amount to me.

You're just outsourcing the LN node + channeling to a more common level (which should ideally be quite small and private imo).

So it goes through LN anyway. So why Cashu zaps then?

I don't want to need a LN adresss, and want to run a node at a level that makes sense (a private group or community)

I like the simplicity of the cashu zap event and the way we can build interactions on it.

If you're in a group it should be on you to add the group mint. That should be part of group onboarding. If you don't add that mint then I don't see that as any different to not adding a LN address here.

If you take the view that Nostr doesn't scale outside of a small world context then what happens in a big world context (i.e the current wilds of Nostr, even though to be honest here is still like a group in spirit) ins't indicative of much.

I quit zapping because it kept bugging out so much and reestablishing a connection just wasn't feasible despite a timeboxed effort.

Enthusiasm is nice, but to get a sizeable following at some point, reduction of friction has to become a priority.

This is exactly what I've been thinking the past 24hrs. Some of the responses I've seen from other devs with "alternatives" has honestly made me question some trust in their apps. Almost comes across as an FU to the pleb 🤨Really thought this space was beyond that.

I'm starting to seriously doubt whether the devs are even capable of seeing things from someone else's perspective. Total autists in that regard. Completely stuck in their technical bubble. They can't even grasp that just letting people type an 'email address' into a field would've been the simplest solution.

I guess it comes with the decentralized nature of the space. I'd like to think that with more iteration the tools would be better. Very mixed. I'm kinda just keeping my head down and focusing on my own project but clearly single dev teams are potentially problematic not to mention vibing a client in a day with little to no testing.
