Just onboarded my 16 year old cousin to Bitcoin

He says he wants to put all his savings in BTC, then buy a car when he turns 18

If you want to welcome him with $1 or whatever you can spare, this is his address:

He uses Cakewallet. Why not set him up with a Monero wallet? Financial privacy best practises are important for newcomers.

Baby steps, mate. Give him time to learn and experiment. I don’t want to overwhelm him, he will have his own journey.

I set up people with Monero first. Because no matter what they do they will likely stay safe.

Then when they know what they do they can invest more and make use of Bitcoin.

Safe from what mate?

What is the risk for a newbie just starting out that they need Cypherpunk privacy out the bat?

Genuine quesion.

Start with the thing he should receive first next time. LN or Monero or payment codes; choose one of those.

Here, you'll have to unteach him the address reuse pattern, which won't be a nothing-lesson, if you're the one who taught it to him in the first place.

Let him start from the most basic way to use a wallet, grok the public blockchain and figure out what he wants.

If he's family, you inberently have time to work with him & go through the steps, build his knowledge, and correct this kind of bad advice.

For anyone less close, it's just bad advice.

Wait.... How do we zap him?

No zaps, just on-chain for now

You should NEVER doxx people's on-chain #Bitcoin / #BTC addresses (especially w/a picture) & you should also never re-use addresses. 🤙
