For now, it's exciting to Zap.
But I am not sure if this Zap culture will last or not.
Hopefully, it will.
We are all used to this ‘free content, but you are the product’ model from these web2 platforms in the last 10-20 years.
It will be a hard switch for people to part away their precious sats, which can potentially be of 100-1000X value in future. For the content, they were getting for free earlier.
I think it makes more sense to zap to unlock exclusive content. Free notes are open to anyone, paid ones are for those who zap.

I think zapping is like payments that doesn't hurt and feels like free. When SATs get more expensive then we can go into decimals to make sure that minimum zaps allowed are still close to nothing and feels like free.
At this exact moment, zapping is a kind of stress test for LN, but more importantly, it makes a lot of people experience what it means to make microtransactions instantly using Hard Money. This is just the beginning, yet another move in game theory. Give it time and all the noise will dissipate into unprecedented technological harmony. 🧡⚡
when you receive many zaps in a day it really does encourage further zapping if only to participate socially

It could pan out like reddit awards, I don't mind spending money on reddit to hand out awards to well deserved posts, on Nostr I don't mind occasionally loading a lightning wallet with $20 of Bitcoin to zap people
I remember we used to do this sort of tipping with Bitcoin on chain on Reddit when Bitcoin was cheap and fees were zero. Not sure if we stopped because people didn't want to spend money, or because fees went way up and sending less than a penny was no longer possible.
But as I mentioned on my time line, it's ironic that this is a space full of the type of people who normally tell everyone to "stack sats" who aren't doing it while here.
Maybe when our lightning wallets let us take it out to .001 satoshi, we will all recalibrate, and fractional sats will have their day for micropayments.. My understanding is that within the network, .001's of sats are already allowed for.
