Not dissing, but how is this diff from Twitter?

“So how will we be applying this on the Bluesky app? Automated filtering is a commoditized service by now, so we will be taking advantage of this to apply a first pass to remove illegal content and label objectionable material. Then we will apply server-level filters as admins of bsky.social, with a default setting and custom controls to let you hide, warn, or show content. “

Seems fine

In many ways it sounds like what I’ve been talking about with you only it sounds like they reserve the first pass of moderation and users only get to moderate more, not less.

> “…**we will be taking advantage of this to apply a first pass** to remove illegal content and label objectionable material. On top of that, we will let users subscribe to **additional sets of moderation** labels that can filter out more content or accounts.”

I can’t see that flying on Nostr. No one here gets a “first pass” other than relay owners who are trying to keep themselves out of court. Or are the people writing the doc the equivalent of Nostr relay owners? If so, then Nostr wins because there isn’t just one relay owner.

it’s very unclear what level this works on, and that ambiguity is both driving up the expectations of those wanting to use it zealously and driving away those who might be ok with it, IF how it fit into their dev docs and the protocols architecture was clear. It’s just not enough information to hold an opinion on it.

They have created a serious problem with their current exclusive user base rallying for a “normalize bullying for me but not for thee” posture. I’m not surprised those who felt like they lost power and lost twitter would ramp up their rhetoric, in someways I see and hope the blatant admission of wanting to bulling as a dying breath. I am unfortunately not hopeful that this large group of early adopters doesn’t eat jay alive if she doesn’t deliver on a safe space for them to bully others in.

First sentence:

"Moderation is a necessary feature of social spaces."

Sad. Image spending the small amount of time you have here on earth thinking like that.

I don't want to work on a "social space". I want to build a cold arena where ideas that threaten the very foundations of civilization can be discovered. I don't want an "internet community". Everyone online is a loser. Find friends in the real world.
