Does running your own LN give more control of the BTC comaprsd to running only Zeus? I feel that is the case for me but I need to explore it further.
Also running a LN (hopefully not a shirty one like Umbrel) would give you a full bitcoin node to broadcast transactions, run your own mempool and explorer, and so much more.
You can do all that without running a LN node. Just run a Bitcoin node!
Maybe a bit more but you have control over your BTC in Zeus as well!

Agree with you 💯. I did the same last year and started using Breez for similar reasons. Running the new nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 is still running a node, it’s just a node on your phone, and the channels are not public. So it’s not intended to route, only to send/receive your own payments.
Exactly! I’m tired of taking care of my node. Better to close channels, send to cold storage and use Zeus!
Yea, running a small public node is a great experiment and a great way to learn about lightning and more about bitcoin, but at some point the risks to your funds and the losses incurred on channel closures outweighs the educational/learning benefits. The good thing is, whenever a situation comes up that you do need a public node, now you have that knowledge and firsthand experience to fall back on.

It does. You just have to initiate the peer connection from the node in Zeus because it does not have a publicly accessible URI

You can open an unannounced channel to us. We are only allowing whitelisted nodes to open public channels to us.

#metoo I have been playing around with the lightning wallet on nostr:npub1jg552aulj07skd6e7y2hu0vl5g8nl5jvfw8jhn6jpjk0vjd0waksvl6n8n Green. I was in the top 400 routing nodes back in the day, but I like keeping sats in multisig wallet instead.
