Nostr Web Client

I tried to onboard my friends tonight and had a heck of a time. Both had iPhones so I got them both on Damus. And they could show me their QR code. But once I got it, I couldn't figure out how to paste their public key into my phone client to follow them. I tried nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg, coracle (nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn) and amethyst (nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z) and none of them had an obvious way to follow someone by pasting a pubkey.

Also one installed nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm but couldn't figure out how to connect it to Damus nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955, and I couldn't either.

Eventually I followed them both after they posted and I searched for them.

This needs to be easier on phone clients. There need to be maybe more menu options? Or maybe they are hidden somewhere? I had bragged about how much I know about nostr and am involved in nostr, and then I couldn't even get them setup. It was embarassing.

Oh, and nostr:npub1wmw3ny90zg6gmy7jlme76vthjjreapn94cmx9vduxzjhntm9xamq24stj0 and nostr:npub1ckhwr3lvc8g5yvwg22hv8vysvk437q0hlftvm5d432x43ps2ll5qfkpq0g are gonna need zaps once we get their wallets setup. They were floored to find out that random people might just send them money for something they post.

On Amethyst I put the new npub in the search box and it always finds the profile to follow.

I tried that and it didnt work, but it is doing it now. Maybe they were too new - I'm not sure how Amethyst searches (at relay, at which relay, etc).

Ok next time I'll go into my profile, open my qr, and click that button to scan someone else's qr. Totally logical? But now I know. Thanks.

There button to scan is on the bottom-right of the menu drawer. Granted, I need to place in a more visible location.

I got confused because I already scanned into my clipboard from the camera, I didn't need another scan I was looking to paste somewhere.

Google's camera doesn't pass the link along to other apps. Only a very few select apps (like browsers get that feature). :(

I'll probably sober up and think its easy again! :-) Nah, its probably just every client is different and I'm so used to my own client I can't drive these phone clients since I rarely nostr on my phone.

In damus you just paste the npub into the search box, but normally you would just scan the qr to follow?. Damus also has a big alby button in the wallet section on the sidebar. If their lnaddress is setup in alby it will automatically set it up on their profile when they link it.

I was on the other side. I scanned their damus QR codes into my clipboard and looked for a place to paste into an android nostr app.

I don't know lots about lightning. Does Alby give them an lnaddress like WoS or do they need a third thing?

I'm gonna need to attend a "how to onboard people to nostr" class or something.

Same on coracle, search for the npub/nprofile and it'll bring up the person. Finding the qr code is less obvious, that's under the menu on the profile page.
