I think the discussion was always around a voluntary subscription option, which still makes it “value for value” and keeps it free for new Nostriches joining nostr, but allows those of us who find so much value in Damus (or other clients) to consistently give value back.
Discussion
True… but to play devil’s advocate, Twitter Blue is also voluntary. And many of us left Twitter when it was instituted (obviously amongst many other reasons). Should we as a community push to get out of that fiat mindset and try to adopt value for value? Are there other ways of incentivizing V4v?
I share these thoughts.
I love the idea of prisms. Also, a client. could create a system that reminds you to give to clients, devs, relays, and accounts that provide value.
“Here are the accounts you interact with the most and relays you’ve been using. Do you want to shoot them a ⚡️ to encourage them to keep creating?”
After all, users can move from one client to another, but as long as the Nostr ecosystem grows, everyone can benefit from the network effect.
As one of the two asking the question, that was absolutely the point of the discussion. Optional. A monthly reminder to pay an invoice for whatever amount the payer desires. End at any time, or change the amount.
The point is a bridge to provide support to the client developers to continue to focus on their work without another fiat job.
We will eventually figure out how the efforts to support the ecosystem can cover costs and make a living for their value. Clients, relays, storage services (imagines, video) etc. We need to get there.
i'd pay for Amethyst too fwiw
