Took me 2hrs to change a 2FA phone number for a legacy bank account bc their broken system couldn’t send text messages when requested (got them all at once 70min later on 5th attempt).

But the DUMBEST part…

They sent the confirmation of phone number change to the NEW number 😆

These are the same idiots telling you to KYC & perform all sorts of other security theatre online.

Better yet, try getting into a conversation with a mindless CSR drone who tries to convince you that SMS 2FA is the most secure option over other standards. Also, if your phone number ever gets put into a proprietary database of VoIP numbers, that somehow makes your whole account suspicious as a fraud risk, even though it's been OK for decades before. Of course, if you ask to speak with anyone there who has a clue about IT, or report actual bugs in their web apps, then that definitely makes you look suspicious. 🙄

Clowns in a clown world

Wow! That’s painful to hear. It’s frustrating to know that my personal data is in the hands of a bunch of incompetent organizations like that.

https://crypton.sh for long term sms 2fa

Unfortunately can’t be used. The dumb asses in Australia are smart enough to recognise what’s a digital sim, but dumb enough to think SIM 2FA is safe 😆

Did you confirm? crypton.sh uses physical sims, ie, with a modem.

Should be fine for banking purposes so long as they accept UK numbers

Nope. That’s what it must be. Has to be a local sim/number
