Why don’t we have a relay that only shows notes with #grownostr or some filtered list of general word hashtags that excludes crypto, and set that relay as default for newbies? Then offer some other relay recommendations in settings?

Is this a technical challenge?

It’s just a centralization nightmare. Not a technical challenge. Where do they go after this initial relay?

at scale a hashtag that is used to onboard newbies will become a cesspool of spam and low quality content. grownostr is awesome now but when people hear that that is the newbie feed is populated by it, it'll be spammed with follow4follow, sendmefreezaps, buymynft and etc.

Yeah, that's why you need a relay, with trusted moderators, curating the spam away to keep the feed clean. Just like a discord server would operate.

Trusted moderators would not scale, and likely be against the ethos of the project:

1) mods can't do that at scale. They would need an algo.

2) if the mods use the algo, they could use it manipulatively and it would be very hard for end users to detect

3) business would offer the mods lots of money to subtly bias their content, etc

At this point, why not use twitter? That's exactly what Twitter is. Nostr is supposed to remove the manipulative algo and centralized trust... the things that make Twitter evil.

thanks for writing up when I was going to πŸ‘

Nah no mods needed

I see people asking for it all the time.. even you, said you wanted one that allows one pubkey to post. This is mod. Maybe I will use a different word cause it seems to cause a huge backlash anytime someone hears it. The reality is, relays are already moderated.

Being able to follow a hashtag may be a better way to go.

I know you can on Amathyst. Not sure on others

That could work too if you introduce it in onboarding

Would be simple to just unfollow when the πŸ’© hits the fan as well.
