Running a node is a kinda of pointless activity. Self validating transactions is the true "Running A Node", for that you want a safe computer and you don't need to do it all the time.

What else do people do when running a node but self validating transactions? Isn’t that the whole point? Perhaps besides also doing lightning stuff.

Aside from LN which is validating. Ppl just run core 24/7 for some reason

I guess the reason is to not have to wait for the node to sync up when you do want to use it.
