There are now 2 homeless guys living in my quiet Melbourne suburb.

One has occupied a recessed fire door in a warehouse, pretty sure he works based on all the hivis (funny that autocorrects to hobos) clothing he has. Second guy has setup camp in the trees at a local park.

I’ve seen more homeless people in the CBD this week than I can ever recall, probably double.

All anecdotal of course but it’s becoming more obvious that people are struggling here and the bills are only getting worse. We’re not at San Fran levels by any stretch, but it’s also a lot worse than Melbourne has been. nostr:note1lmccr2mkash37329ju38eehjfans8enupq2yyg9clcsx47tc6rws78283x

Nothing indicates improvement. Everything points to significant further deteriorating conditions

can confirm. similar experience

I'm in Adelaide CBD and it has exploded in homeless folks. Pretty sad considering how much "better" (for lack of better words) the homeless in Aus have it compared to the US. There are a lot more welfare programs here to aid the homeless and help give them shelter, food, job opportunities, etc than America.

Though, I understand why, as literally everything costs more now. Rising rents, food, petrol, clothes, etc commodities. If someone was already struggling pre-pandemic, they'd be in a world of hurt today.

Keeps me in check to continually realise how fortunate I am, but also how I need to continue trying to move away from such a toxic system while I can still "afford" to do so as my purchasing power erodes.

I’ve noticed this when I’ve been in the CBD too recently. I’ve also see posts on forums asking where is safe to sleep in cars along the beaches and people desperately searching for housing that they can afford. Definitely does make you realise how fortunate you are.

That's pretty dire, bad times.

ufff... socialism is a disease

This is kinda different to what was happening in eastern europe when the soviets lost their grip. That was an explosion of pent up creative energy, overshadowing all the bad stuff that happened alongside.

I'm in rural SA and I've noticed people living in cars around the place, never seen that before. The peak is yet to come I reckon.

Yeah I’ve seen more van-lifers but I just attributed to summer travels but possible it’s people who can’t afford housing. Don’t know how bad it will get but this for sure isn’t the peak.

Only reason I haven’t left the US is because I can’t take my guns with me, and Im convinced I’m going to need them later.

Yeah that is its own dilemma only faced by Muricans. It’s the only country where being a goldbug is feasible for that reason - imagine being a goldbug here in Aus 🤣
