You can opt out of getting notified about streams on a per-streamer basis. Select the options icon next to the stream name, then toggle Stream Notifications off.
That way you will only get the banner from the streamers you really wish to be notified about.
Would be nice to be able to opt out of all stream notifications.

Seriously. I want zero of these. I shouldn’t have to opt out of every one individually.
