It’s a mix, some have stopped appearing while others haven’t. I’m not sure there’s any logic to it, but it could be that it worked for those I follow and didn’t work for those I don’t.

Furthermore, there's another issue: profiles for which I deactivated stream notifications appear muted when I go to their profile. On the web, I explicitly see the message that the user is muted with an empty list of posts. However, if I reload the page, it fixes itself.
