#bookstr needs to exist. A new (old) type of long-format content: Books. A mix of the Kindle app + Goodreads over Nostr. Not quite nostr:npub1w0rthyjyp2f5gful0gm2500pwyxfrx93a85289xdz0sd6hyef33sh2cu4x nor nostr:npub1v7tvufenf2dyq5d0je4mc8flh80uep7n2t04zvurjjt8uwldfz6qhlmy2w A platform for authors to publish, distribute and get funded via zaps. It should be built for the open web, and books from project Gutenberg be automatically populated. Only Creative Common or Public books should be allowed to flourish. A PWA should be created for mobile experience. A great UX should be delivered. Functionalities should include deep-linking, bookmarking, quoting, sharing and funding. Top authors should be highlighted. Quality books should be community decided. Categories and subcategories should be made available. Technical books should be incentivized. Quality.should be seek and found. Authors should be invited to publish on the platform, with fair analytics, direct contact with readers and direct funding from fans. Reading experience.should be paramount. Version control and github books allowed.

An open reader,, a PWA reader. A library of open books and a community (sub-nostr-communiy of authors and readers, of open knowledge and arts. Not only long-format, a platform for a specific type of long form: Books-Over-Nostr.

Yesterday there was an update from Alexandria https://next-alexandria.gitcitadel.eu/

Nice! Can we work together? https://bibliopath.vercel.app/

cc: nostr:npub1m4ny6hjqzepn4rxknuq94c2gpqzr29ufkkw7ttcxyak7v43n6vvsajc2jl or nostr:npub1wqfzz2p880wq0tumuae9lfwyhs8uz35xd0kr34zrvrwyh3kvrzuskcqsyn They are probably too busy doing their things :monoice:

You can work with us by mass-importing Project Gutenberg books to kind 30040s, with each chapter a kind 30041.

Then all of your uploaded books show up in the various reader apps.

Great! Would you guarantee availability maintaining a relay?

We already host two of our own relays, and we will soon be expanding that count.

Note that not all of them are in the public domain everywhere (they are in the US, but some are not in other countries).

Good point

Almost every feature you described is already on our roadmap 😀

Awesome!

There are existing knowledge bases about books, such as the Open Library of the Internet Archive, Wikidata (which is about pretty much anything) and more. Anything on Nostr should reference semi-structured data elsewhere. Use machine-readable references.

Thanks for sharing… Still wondering if a Reader/Community like this should pollute Nostr relays with such data, or instead use be able to pull content from different sources, and use Nostr as a community (login, comments, highlights, zapping and funding authors) and as reference layers to those content sources. I think the reader itself should be universal, meaning, be able to pull from https://gutendex.com/books/ or from a git repository (markdown) book or even a user should be able to upload its epub to its local indexdb and use it in the reader without none of that ever touching our servers/relays.

They could have their own dedicated relays.

Also authors are dead, they can't get money.
