Nostr trying to be a better Twitter, is the same as crypto trying to be “better Bitcoin.”
You don’t compete with the paradigm, you build your expand the environment and take the market that exists where the other can’t compete at all.
Bitcoin’s mission was never to be a “better fiat,” it was to do things fiat could never do.
right, just like linux is better than windows, nostr should be better than twitter about ux. it's not about competing, we just need to realize that we can build better software than big tech.

also the most successful cryptoshits are those that tried to be better Bitcoin like Monero
The comparison should be twitter-like Nostr apps (Amethyst, Primal, etc) vs Twitter. Nostr itself is competing for something bigger.
I wonder if the growth of nostr will slow due to the lack of attacking free speech. At least in the US. Seem like when its attacked it grows. Either way tho I really enjoy spending time here versus the other social media platforms

Apples and oranges. Nostr is a relay protocol, much like HTTP is a hypertext protocol.
Twitter is built on top of HTTP, but we don't say HTTP is trying to replace or improve Twitter.
Nostr is also built on HTTP, but it specializes in something different: transmitting notes and other stuff between users via relays.
Protocols are simply tools—like APIs or libraries—that enable applications to function. Twitter could integrate Bitcoin, and it could integrate Nostr, too!
The fact that for so many people "Nostr the protocol" has become pretty much synonymous with "Your average Kind1 client" is a problem in itself.

Exactly. The goal isn’t to replace or outdo what came before, but to offer something fundamentally different. Nostr isn’t trying to be ‘better Twitter,’ just like no crypto project is trying to be ‘better Bitcoin.’ They’re about expanding what’s possible in ways that the existing paradigms can’t. Bitcoin wasn’t designed to replicate fiat; it was designed to empower decentralization and financial sovereignty in ways that traditional money never could.
I value the combination of articulation here. It really helps put certain aspects into perspective. I also strongly align with Jack's and Guy's sentiments. I organically drift away from extreme liminal style operating folks.
