In my opinion Monero is far better than Lightning solutions for payments đ
Only custodial Lightning solutions work well for payments and thatâs bad đ

I never had any issues with phoenix, breeze is a little bit rough
Phoenix just works. Never ever had a failure. All we need is LND to support bolt 12 or for people to start moving away from LND, and we will get async payments. Goddamn LND
-Not private since they calculate the routes for you so know amounts and destinations
-Permissioned because their nodes act as a middleman between you and the Lightning Network
-You have to pay them extra to transact
-If they go offline for any reason your wallet becomes useless
Any non-custodial LN wallet like this has the same problems
The only real way to be sovereign on LN atm is to run your own node. And that comes with it's own unique nightmares.
Didn't knew about that, look how stupid i am đ
Lol you're not stupid
I didn't know this either at one point until someone told me
what can we do?
What are your goals?
If you don't care about privacy and permissionless transactions then what I said doesn't matter. But if you do care, and want to use Lightning, then run your own LN node and jump all the technical hoops to remain private.
Or you could just use Monero. Simple to use, permissionless, and designed from the ground up around strong default privacy. You don't even have to run your own node and will still retain transactional privacy from any remote nodes you use. Amounts and addresses are always hidden, senders obfuscated. Transactions also cost less than a cent.
Thanks for that note, Iâm struggling with understanding lightning and donât trust myself to do it with self-custody.
How easy is it to switch from btc to monero?
Very easy
Use trocador.app for the quickest, cheapest, easiest way
Many more options in the "HOW DO I GET MONERO?" section depending on your preference đ

Isn't the Trocadero app proprietary?
Yes, but not sure if open source matters with websites. You can't verify if they are running the same code on their servers anyway.
Best you can do is have no-javascript and/or an onion site. They do both.

You can also use other options on my link that don't require trust (or minimize trust) like Bisq, UnstoppableSwap, BasicSwapDEX. They are all open source software you can run and verify for yourself.
Where do you transact with Monero? I havenât seen much places accepting it
We are early, even Bitcoin isnât accepted in anywhere near where i live. I buy my VPN with Monero.
I will find the site that has the places where you can spend Monero and i will show to you
monerica.com
I got you bruh
scroll down to the "WHERE CAN I SPEND MONERO?" section

I think maximalism is toxic and I really donât understand it. I mean is anybody really saying that Monero or any other crypto is a competitor to Bitcoin for a potential global reserve currency? My understanding is that the total supply of Monero canât even really be audited because thatâs the tradeoff it makes in order to be private. Doesnât seem like a competitor at all to me, just a completely different thing. Speaking as someone who doesnât own any Monero and has never used it, btw.
You seem me talking about Monero being a competitor of Bitcoin on terms of reserve currency where?
Comment wasnât targeted at you, I was just throwing the thought out there in anticipation of how I thought a lot of people might respond to it in an effort to learn more.
I thought maybe youâd have some insight since I would expect a lot of bitcoiners to respond negatively about Monero
Sorry, I misunderstood.
Toxic people are everywhere but as i can see people are getting more awareness that Maximalism is a non sense theory
the maximalists preserved btc for you and are the only honest bunch around this hellhole...
and toxic maximalism is Beauty. which is Truth; Love.
protoplasm always calcifies its just a matter of into what...
That isnât true, i see so called maximalists advizing you to buy on centralized exchanges, and so on and on.
Bitcoin isnât the best for everything, and bitcoin has more shitcoinery on code than Monero at these days, and Monero is more censorship resistant than Bitcoin my friend.
what are you a 2017'er or later?
im not talking about maximalists (name one) who advise where to buy , but the people who built the shit , followed by those who defended it in the early years against attacks by agents...
if you arent familiar with this chapter you really prolly shouldnt be making statements like that.
human nature is rotten envious and lazy dont forget it. most people are so naive in regard to the enemy btc faces that they are dangerous - maximalists are those that KNOW this and act and speak accordingly.
this aint no feel good game and HBDGAF...
bitcoin is ultra-conservative. liberal "values" will die under it. rejoice.
Here is a list of the giants whose shoulders they stood on or built the Bitcoin
"Privacy" "Untraceable" "Anonymous" all heavily emphasized in their texts and titles
What does this sound more like to you Bitcoin or something like Monero?

sorry what isnt true?
đsee it took a few minutes for someone to be toxic just because you mentioned an opinion that something besides Bitcoin has any value for any reason lol. Thatâs why I very rarely engage with anyone on the internet and only just started doing it again on nostr. Toxicity is toxicity regardless of the topic at hand. Toxic maximalists just need a few strong doses of đ, then maybe theyâd reassess the value of it. Fully expecting a nasty toxic response to this, trying to grow some internet calluses to toughen myself up a bit tho, so whatevs đ
